Avijatrik also called (The Wanderlust of Apu) is a 2021 Bengali-language drama film that was directed and written by Subhrajit Mitra. Mitra is a popular filmmaker in India well known for his exceptional work in the Bengali film industry.

Gaurang Jalan acted as the producer while Madhur Bhandarkar an Indian film director acted as the co-producer. Gaurang Films and Bhandarkar Entertainments are the banners under which the movie was released.

The film is based on a novel named (Aparajito) by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay who was an Indian writer in the Bengali language. The movie’s first time showing in public took place at Kolkata International Film Festival in January 2021.

Avijatrik was later released theatrically in December 2021 and has since won the heart of many people.

Apu is the main character in the film which focuses on his great desire to explore the world.

1. Apu the Main Actor has a Great Desire to Explore the World

Avijatrik is a story about Apu who has a great desire to travel and explore the outside world and soak in the myriad layers of life. He first relocates upon getting a new job as a teacher to the northern side of India from Kolkata.

His desire for nature causes him to forsake his good job in North India and he returns to Calcutta but suddenly falls sick. He visits his ancestral home from his motherland to revive his old memories before traveling again.

He also bid goodbye to his motherland and the village and sets out to unknown terrains for a new beginning.

2. Avijatrik is an Award Winning Film

The magnificent film won some awards during the 68^th National Film Awards. The film was awarded the best Bengali film (The Wanderlust of Apu) which was based on the novel, Aparajito.

The movie revolves around Apu’s great desire to explore the world and have an experience of the outside.

The film also marks the fourth National Film Award of the filmmaker known as Madhur Bhandarkar.

3. Apu had Exceeding Love for his Son Kajol

During the period they met, Leela’s health was drastically declining day by day. They met as Leela was visiting her daughter who lived with her grandmother in Benaras.

After Apu meets his childhood sweetheart, though ailing she confessed her love for Apu. Soon after she succumbed to her illness while resting in his arms and she breathed her last.

Since Apu had promised to visit Leela’s mother and daughter in Benaras, he was compelled to get down the moving train. Death once again broke his heart after the death of his wife.

Apu met his fellow globetrotter, Shankar in Benaras who was still in his middle age. Shankar was visiting some of the old Indian cities just to explore the entire consciousness of the ancient civilization.

Both Apu and Kajol were captivated by his spirit of adventure and his soul-searching pursuit. Apu being so enticed asked for more time since he was worried about his son’s safety and future in a new land.

Later Apu rejoined Shankar to hunt for new beginnings in an unknown land.

The eye-catching movie was released at the 2021 Kolkata International Film Festival which took place in January 2021. Kolkata International Film Festival is an annual film festival that takes place in Kolkata, India.

The film was later Screened at London Indian Film Festival in September 2021 and released theatrically in December the same year.

10. Apu Felt at Home and Peaceful upon Visiting his Ancestral Home in Nischindipur

Just before Apu left his motherland, for another adventure he decided to visit his ancestral home in Nischindipur. He took Kajol along and he desired to revive his childhood memories.
