Sheikh Hasina was born on born 28 September 1947 in Tungipara, East Bengal, Pakistan (present-day Tungipara, Gopalganj, Bangladesh).

She is a politician from Bangladesh who has been Bangladesh’s prime minister since January 2009. In the past, she held the position of prime minister from June 1996 to July 2001.

Hasina is the daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s first president, and founding father.

She has served as prime minister for more than 18 years, making her the longest-serving leader in Bangladesh’s history.

She is the longest-serving elected female head of state in the world as of August 7, 2022. In an election that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party boycotted in 2014, she was re-elected for a third term.

In 2018, after an election plagued by violence from the opposition, she was elected to a fourth term.

1. She is the daughter of the founding father and the first President of Bangladesh

Hasina was born to the Bengali Muslim Sheikh family in Tungipara, East Bengal. The first President of Bangladesh and its founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was her father. Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was her mother.

She has Iraqi Arab ancestry through her paternal grandfather Sheikh Lutfar Rahman, who was a direct descendant of 15th-century Muslim preacher Sheikh Awwal of Baghdad.

2. She was barred from Bangladesh until 1981 when she was elected to lead the Awami League Party

When her father and the majority of her family were murdered on August 15, 1975, as part of a military coup d’état, Hasina was not in Bangladesh.

She was in West Germany together with her nuclear physicist husband, M. A. Wazed Miah.

She was therefore prohibited from entering the nation again until 1981 when she was chosen to head the Awami League Party.

3. She became the first Bangladeshi Prime Minister to complete the entire term since its independence

According to the American business journal, Bangladesh’s longest-serving prime leader, Sheikh Hasina Wazed, is presently in her fourth term.

Following the victory of her party, the Bangladesh Awami League, in 288 of the 300 parliamentary seats, she was elected to a fourth term, which is also her third consecutive term.

It also mentions that an ongoing struggle for Hasina has been establishing a firm democracy in Bangladesh.
