It has an excellent collection of attractive bushes, so visitors may enjoy the park at any time of year. The Stadtpark, or City Park, is a favourite of both locals and visitors in Vienna. The Stadtpark has been open to the public since 1862 when the medieval walls were demolished.

2. Stadtpark was the first public park in Vienna

It is one of Vienna’s oldest parks, having been open to the public since 1862. It was Vienna’s first public park. The Stadtpark (City Park), Vienna’s first public park complex, has existed since the Ringstra脽e was established in 1860, and initially extended from the left bank of the Wien river.

4. Its most photographed monument is the statue of Johan Strauss

The park is famed for its golden statue of Johann Strauss’s son. The statue, a gilded bronze sculpture created in 1921 in honour of the legendary Austrian composer, is one of the park’s most photographed landmarks.

This bronze statue of Johann Strauss’ son, with a marble relief by Edmund Hellmer, was unveiled in 1921. The memorial to Johann Strauss the Son on his violin attracts the most attention and is the subject of many postcards from Vienna.

The bronze sculpture of the Viennese waltz king with gold plating and framed by a marble relief was presented back then. The gilding on the statue was removed in 1935 and redone in 1991.

5. Stadtpark was designed in the style of English gardens

The park was designed in the English garden style by landscape painter Josef Selleny, with plans by city gardener Rudolf Siebeck. The park opened on August 21, 1862, becoming Vienna’s first public park.

The English-style recreation place is located between the Parkring in the first district and the Heumarkt in the third district. The template was provided by landscape painter Joseph Selleny, and the planting was done by city gardener Rudolph Siebeck.

6. Stadtpark is divided into two sections

The park is divided into two sections by the Wienfluss (Vienna River). The river Wienfluss splits the Stadtpark into two parts and bridge constructions like the iron Karolinenbr眉cke connect both parts.

The Genussfestival, which takes place every Mother’s Day weekend, is a featured event held at the park. The first Genussfestival took place in 2008, and it has been organized every year since then by the City of Vienna and the Kulinarisches Erbe 脰sterreich (Culinary Heritage Austria) group.

Visitors can sample and purchase a variety of cuisines from over 170 tents offering items from regional dealers from nine federal states.

10. The garden’s beauty is accompanied by acoustic performances
