This Museum was established in memory of Aram Khachaturian, this beloved Armenian composer, and the genius who had made a great contribution to the world cultural legacy. He has also been enlisted by UNESCO as one of the famous composers of the 20th century.

 The museum is located in a mansion where the brother of the composer, Vaginak Khachaturian lived with his family. This is where Aram often stayed whenever he visited Yerevan. The place was arranged into museum after he passed away in 1982.

1. Original Works Of The Composer Are Displayed Here

In the museum you find displays of a tailcoat, conductor鈥檚 baton, letters, photos and many other personal things of Khachaturian, presented by his son Karen. Apart from this, it also keeps some of the composer鈥檚 works, his manuscripts and other important documents in the library.

This record collection continues to gather other records of classical and contemporary music. Moreover, the museum can brag about the exhibited collection of unique musical instruments.

2. Some Exhibits Of The Museum Had Come From Far

Some exhibits of the museum had made a long way in order to be there. For example, the history of the grand piano from the museum of Aram Khachaturian is unusual and interesting. In 1957, Khachaturian was traveling on concert tour to Brazil at the invitation of antiquarian Tigran Mostidjian who was his fan.

At this point, a piano had to be purchased for him to perform.  In the end, the piano traveled to Argentina as a part of the dowry for the daughter of Tigran Mostidjian, however, in 1988 it was gifted to the Aram Khachaturian Museum and since then it has become a permanent exhibit of the museum.

3. It Hosts Various Events

The museum regularly hosts musical evenings, meetings with distinguished figures of culture and various exhibitions. Apart from that, there is a musical contest named after the composer held in the chamber concert hall of the House-Museum once in two years.

On January 23, 1984 the museum was opened for visitors. When he was still alive the composer got acquainted only with the sketches of the future museum and expressed his wishes to the famous architect Edward Altounyan who was to design it on the order of the government.

 Letters, manuscripts of scores, books, records, photos and other materials related to the life and creative work of the genius composer are collected there.

4. The Items In The Museum Are A Donation

The son of A. Khachaturian, Karen, donated to the museum the private things of his father: cabinet, bedroom, dining room, piano, conductor鈥檚 tail-coat and baton, letters and many other things from the family archive. Today the home-museum is surrounded by a green garden where in 2007 a memorial fountain was opened, the work of Sargis Gourzadyan, an honored architect of the RA.

The home-museum occupies an area of 2000sq.m. In 2006 the home-museum was fundamentally repaired.

5. Over 18thousand Valuable Exhibits Are Kept In The Home-Museum

Over 18thousand valuable exhibits are kept in the home-museum, and more than 12500 out of them are included in the main fund of the museum. Those are the personal belongings of the great composer, photos, documents, ballet and concert posters and so on.

6. The Museum Has 10 Exposition Rooms

 The museum has 10 exposition rooms and a private corner of the composer that thoroughly describe his life and creative activity. If you are in Yerevan and find yourself not far from the central square, make sure you stop by in this interesting and cozy museum.

7. The Hall In The Museum Has Welcomed Leading performers

In the museum, there is a light concert hall with excellent acoustics. This has welcomed the leading performers of chamber genre and young musicians for decades now. There is a rich library of records in the house-museum 鈥� about 4000 CDs with records of classic and contemporary music. The museum also includes a National collection of unique musical instruments.

 On June 6, 2008 they celebrated the 105th anniversary of the great composer and the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the home-museum. The opening of the new exposition was timed to these dates.

8. A Visitor Can Be Entertained By Various Musicals

The museum presents the creative works of the great composer with world fame – Works for Symphony Orchestra, Works for Soloists, Chorus and Symphony Orchestra,Works for Solo Instruments and Symphony Orchestra, Music for Ballets (鈥淗appiness鈥�, 鈥淕ayane鈥�, 鈥淪partacus鈥�), Works for Chamber Ensembles, Works for Piano (solo), Works FK Violin and Piano, Works for Cello and Piano and Cello solo, Works for Various Instruments, Works For Brass Band, Music for Theater, Cinema music, Vocal Works鈥�

During all his life the composer, who had to live far from his motherland, was connected with Armenia with thousands of invisible threads, and his love and longing for his homeland are reflected in each of his works as Khachaturyan’s music glorifies Armenia by every note.

And this music unobtrusively accompanies visitors during the excursion about the museum, presenting everybody with the sensation of invisible but very close presence of the composer.

9. One Of The Purposes Is to Develop Artistic And Musical Taste

One of the main purposes of the museum is not only to acquaint visitors with the great composer’s life and creative work, but also to develop artistic and musical taste of the young and especially children. This makes it easier for the Museum to develop different programs for schoolchildren.

Visitors will get acquainted with conductor, pedagogical and social activities of the composer.

10. There Are Beautiful Roses Growing In The Inner Garden

The Museum also has beautiful roses growing in the inner garden of the mansion and a monument-spring water that was a gift to the museum by architects Gurzadyan and Barsegyan to honor the 105th anniversary of the great composer.
