10 Family-friendly restaurants in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is full of cool restaurants and cafes with one of the best things about the city is that it doesn’t reserve these cool spaces for adults. The  city of Amsterdam is a super child-friendly city which is unbeknownst to many.

This also  applies even to its food establishments. If your planning to visit Amsterdam  with your family or yo want to eat around Amsterdam with your family then this list is for you. Here are 10 family friendly restaurants to visit in Amsterdam.

1. The Burgermeister

Bürgermeister Lindemann By Joehawkins –

The Burgermeister franchise serves gourmet burgers and the restaurants can be found in several locations around Amsterdam. This restaurant serves a selection of burgers that are unusual but oh so tasty. They also have a burger taster where you get three small burgers.

They are perfect if you want to enjoy a meaty treat with the kids. More than a restaurant, the place has a fast-food type of vibe: the service is fast and efficient, and there are no frills which mean kids can mess and climbs around without bothering anyone but the food is good. The burgers are generous but they also have ‘mini burgers’ that are perfect for kids

2. Vondelpark 3

On a sunny day it is hard to beat Vondelpark as a family destination and this is also the case if you are hungry. The park offers several food options, including hot dog stands and the family’s favorite Kinderkook, and also offers a beautiful terrace where you can order food and drinks.

The place has lots of space for buggies and strollers, it is inside the park so it is safe from cars (albeit not from bikes!) and has a dinner kids menu with fish fingers and sliders. This is one of our favorite family-friendly restaurants in Amsterdam for location. To avoid  long waiting time, use the app to place your order plus free WIFI is available!

3. Pluk

Pluk is a healthy eating joint with a couple of locations in Amsterdam city center and may seem like a strange pick for the family place. Indeed, it is not suitable for buggies or very young children but it makes our list because our kids love their food and we love its looks!

This eatery serves a selection of savory meals (eggs and avocado, vegetable wraps etc) but what conquered the heart of our kids were their many cakes and delicious pancakes. They are fluffy, have the taste of cinnamon and come with gorgeous fresh berries and chocolate sauce on top. You cannot go wrong!

4. Nemo’s restaurant

If traditional family friendliness is what you are looking for, then look no further than the café’ at the top of Nemo. You can accessits even without going to the museum and it is the perfect place for an early, child-friendly meal.

They have some healthy options and lots of fruit, a good bar, and serve child favorites such as pizza in an informal and fun environment. Nemo is one of our favorite places in the whole of Amsterdam to visit with kids and this family-friendly restaurant is a great place to end your visit.

5. Il Pecorino

We discovered Il Pecorino during a stroll around Amsterdam Noord and we are now obsessed! This is an unassuming Italian restaurant in a square in Amsterdam Noord and it is perfect for families.

The outside space is safe for running around, the staff welcomes the kids with crayons and they have a child menu with pizza, pasta and gelato on offer. The food is served in a fun way: the pizza came in the shape of a bunny and the spaghetti came with child safety scissors.

Evenings are hectic, so it’s best to come around midday. Check out VietView for awesome Vietnamese street food. The kids are sure to enjoy fish and chips from The Butcher, Pizza from Renatos or a hot dog from Bulls and Dogs. The great thing is that due to the pick and mix variety of food on offer kids often end up stretching their food boundaries and trying something a little more adventurous.

7.  Stork

In summer, there are few places better than the terrace at Stork. Overlooking the River IJ, the views will keep your kids occupied and fascinated almost as much as a TV. The succession of extraordinary boats passing by is mesmerizing – from the smallest rowing vessels to massive cruise ships and everything in between. While the adults enjoy the seafood menu, the little ones will delight in the fresh fish and chips and ice lolly.

8. De Pizzabakkers

Amsterdam’s four branches of De Pizzabakkers are hugely popular with families and deservedly so. From delicious pizzas baked in an authentic wood-fired oven to a ‘gelato bambino’ (ice cream served with raspberry or caramel sauce), the menu has got you covered. As a bonus, children get a ball of pizza dough to play with whilst waiting for their food (staff will even bake it for them if they’re not too busy).

9. DignitaDignitas

Looking for somewhere to hang out in the Oud-West area? Digital might be the answer. It’s a lovely, airy café with a dedicated kids’ corner packed full of toys. Designed by someone who understands parents’ needs, Dignitas has a large table and a couch positioned right by it so that you can keep an eye on your little ones.

Food-wise there’s a dish called ‘Eggy’ which is a kids’ sized scrambled egg on homemade bread. As far as drinks go, no one can resist Tony’s Chocolonely hot chocolate with whipped cream. For parents, it’s all about brunch, made from fresh and ethically sourced ingredients cooked onsite to produce ‘super lekker’ favorites and enticing cocktails.

10. Pf

Posts the perfect Noord family hangout. The kids can run free on the open-air playground while the adults eat and enjoy local beer and wine. Pof is all about artisan cooking techniques steeped in tradition and using locally sourced ingredients. So expect all things smoked, stewed, pickled and roasted in a special ‘puff’ oven.

The menu is mostly vegetarian with lots of vegan options, but you will find some meat dishes, courtesy of their neighbors. Everything is fresh, and the ingredients don’t have to travel far: they all come from the Netherlands. Don’t worry about the menu being too complicated for the little ones: there are apple syrup sandwiches, sweet soups and two types of poffertjes for your picky little eaters.
