The Man Who Could Walk Through Walls in Montmartre <\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Place Marcel Aym\u00e9 <\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Most people pass by this statue during their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/city\/paris-walking-tours\/\"><span class=\"s3\">free guided walking tour<\/span><\/a>s through Montmartre. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The official name of the pice is <i>Le Passe-Muraille<\/i>, which can be loosely translated as the \u2018passer through walls\u2019. The people of this neighborhood simply refer to is as the man who could walk through walls when in casual conversation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Le Passe-Muraille <\/i>was the title of a story written by Marcel Aym\u00e9. The man\u2019s name is Dutilleul; and the story follows him on a wild journey through Â鶹APP from working as a civilly servant to eventually landing up in prison where he uses his through-wall abilities to escape. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Dutilleul is said to have lunch in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/top-5-fromagers-in-montmartre\/\">Montmartre<\/a> cafe following his prison break, before sending word to the warden asking him to come and settle his bill. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The statue is a recognizable part of Montmartre. It depicts Dutilleul moving through the stone wall reaching out his hands as he does. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Everyday, tourists from around the world stop here to photograph themselves posing with Dutilleul or attempting to pull him out of the wall. A word from the wise on the streets of Â鶹APP; never kiss anything that is up for public display \u2014 seriously, just refrain. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You can get to the square that contains the statue by walking down Rue Norvins. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s4\">2. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Place Dalida in Montmartre<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Dalida was an immensely successful French singer who was born to Italian parents in Cairo, Egypt. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Dalida moved to Â鶹APP permanently in 1962 after falling in love with the city. Her first and only home here was right in the heart of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/top-10-places-to-buy-cheese-in-montmartre-and-what-to-order-where\/\">Montmartre<\/a>; a village that was dear to her heart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When she first moved to Â鶹APP, Dalida\u2019s intention was to land film and acting roles. It was a raging success, and Dalida would go on to charm her way into the hearts of the French people for years to come. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 1987 Dalida was batteling with her mental health following the loss of some close relatives. She tragically took her life in her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/top-10-places-to-buy-art-in-montmartre\/\">Montmartre<\/a> home. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Place Dalida is a public square dedicated to her memory and the contributions she made to the music scene in Â鶹APP. The same sculptor is also behind the statue that sits atop Dalida\u2019s tomb in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/5-historical-facts-about-the-cemetery-of-montmartre\/\">Montmartre Cemetery<\/a> . A life size, angelic statue that stands proudly day after day as visitors come to pay their respects. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\">3. Statue of Saint-Denys in Montmartre <\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">2B Impasse Girardon<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Statues of saints are another category I prefer not to throw around when giving people quality tips on things to see in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/top-10-bakeries-in-montmartre-and-what-to-order-where\/\">Montmartre<\/a>. Headless statues of saints, however, that\u2019s something I\u2019ll get behind. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Statue of Saint-Denys can be found in the Suzanne Buisson garden in Montmartre. He was the first bishop of Â鶹APP and other representations of him can be found throughout the city. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">What makes this particular statue so interesting is the legend that goes with it. The story goes that Saint-Denys was preaching Christianity to the people which went against Roman laws of the time. This very fountain is the foundation for the statue of the bishop we see here today. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While we can see many logistical flaws in this legend I\u2019m sure, it\u2019s nice to think back to a time where bishops and Roman governors roamed the streets of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/10-interesting-facts-about-the-i-love-you-wall-in-montmartre\/\">Montmartre<\/a> unbeknownst to them what a global attraction the village would become some day. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to legend, our guy continued his journey up through Montmartre and the rest of the 18th arrondissement, all the way into the neighborhood of St Denis in the far north of Â鶹APP.
