Here are five facts that will make tremendous talking points when you do happen to pass by this lot. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"s1\">1. The <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Vineyard of Montmartre <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Was Created by the City of Â鶹APP in 1933<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Vineyard of Montmartre remains under ownership of the City of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/3-days-in-paris-for-returning-visitors\/\">Â鶹APP<\/a>. It was created by the city as an attempt to section off large parts of Montmartre that could not be purchased by real estate developers. It took a few years for the newly planted vines to start producing grapes, but the vineyard was celebrated each year in an annual festival in spite of the lack of product. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-10-things-you-need-to-know-about-wine-in-paris\/\">vineyard<\/a> takes up a total of 0.15 hectares of space, which is small considering the usual sized of wine farms in France. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s4\">2. <\/span><span class=\"s1\"> The <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Vineyard of Montmartre is<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> not Open to the Public <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Unfortunately the vineyard itself is not a place that is open to the public for visitation. Rumor has it that a few locals have seen the occasional photographer be allowed into the vineyard, but this is likely only on behalf of the city for content or research purposes. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s6\">3. The <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Vineyard of Montmartre Produces 27 Varieties of Wine<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You wouldn\u2019t think that this little square of land would have the capacity to produce 27 varieties of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/why-are-the-french-famous-for-wine\/\">wine<\/a>, yet here we are. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">75% of the produce falls in the Gamay family, 20% falls under Pinot and the rest are small mixes of other variants. Of course many of these need to be mixed together to create all the different combinations available. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The majority of the grapes at Montmartre Vineyard are in the red species. This works out to roughly 1700 bottles of wine. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/french-wine-dummies\/\">France<\/a> is the biggest producer of wine in the world. In total, the country will produce an average of seven or eight billion bottles of vino per year. This puts the size of Montmartre Vineyard into perspective, considering only 1700 of these billions come from this small piece of land. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s6\">4. The <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Vineyard of Montmartre Harvest Takes Place in October <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">These 1700 bottles of Montmartre wine are harvested every year during the month of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/what-to-do-in-paris-in-october\/\">October<\/a>, when the grapes are deemed ready by the maintenance crew. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The harvest takes place over the course of a five day long festival called La F\u00eate des Vendanges which takes place on the vineyard grounds and throughout Montmartre. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It is the one time during the year when visitors are welcomed to the property in a celebration of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/where-to-buy-wine-in-paris\/\">fine wines<\/a>, delicious food, cooking classes, live <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-reasons-why-the-olympia-hall-is-the-greatest-concert-venue-in-paris\/\">concerts<\/a> and parades. It is here that they will be properly pressed and bottled. 1700 bottles is generally the goal but not always attainable. Some years the vineyard sees production of anywhere between 1500 bottles down to 1000 bottles at best. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The harvest festival is a beautiful thing to witness in this small town if you are around during the autumn month of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/what-to-do-in-paris-in-october\/\">October<\/a> . <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s6\">5. All Proceeds from the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Vineyard of Montmartre go to Charity <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When compared to other fine wines produced around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-fun-facts-about-french-wine\/\">France<\/a>, the quality of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/5-stories-of-failure-from-montmartres-most-successful\/\">Montmartre<\/a> wine would only ever be classes as average. It\u2019s never going to compete with Bordeaux or Burgundy \u2014 but the Montmartre wines have a soul of their own that makes the quality somewhat irrelevant. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s8\">Each of the harvested bottles of wine from the Montmartre Vineyard is auctioned off at prices starting at either <\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u20ac20 or \u20ac40, depending on the grape.
