This was a place particularly close to Monet\u2019s heart; one in which he could seek inspiration whenever necessary, or simply escape the confines of his own life for a few hours. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Although <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-reasons-go-monets-house-giverny\/\">Monet<\/a> was born in Â鶹APP in 1840, he mostly grew up in Normandy. It wasn\u2019t until 1859 that the painter returned to make Â鶹APP his home; it is from here that we can start to explore his presence in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/top-5-brasseries-of-montmartre\/\">Montmartre<\/a>, and how we can experience it for ourselves. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"s1\">1. Visit the Montmartre Museum in Montmartre<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">12 Rue Cortot<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Montmartre Museum is a site that is passed late into most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/city\/paris-walking-tours\/\"><span class=\"s3\">free guided walking tour<\/span><\/a>s. Well aware of his love for the neighborhood, Monet\u2019s last known heir made the choice to donate all of his inherited works to the Montmartre Museum where they could live on. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This is the largest collection of Monet\u2019s works in a single space in the world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The museum is open seven days a week and there is a \u20ac9.50 entrance fee upon arrival. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s4\">2. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Walk by 11 Avenue de Clichy in Montmartre<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This very specific address may seem a strange recommendation at first, but allow me to elaborate. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">At 11 Avenue de Clichy in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/a-walk-in-montmartre\/\">Montmartre<\/a> there was once a very well known, very popular little cafe called <i>Caf\u00e9 Guerbois<\/i>. These discussions were usually headed by \u00c9douard Manet; and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-parisian-artists-of-the-lost-generation\/\">artists<\/a> accompanying him were most of the at-the-time French greats, Monet amongst them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Unfortunately this property was unable to withstand the test of time and you won\u2019t be able to visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-cafes-in-paris-to-visit-with-a-laptop\/\">cafe<\/a> itself. There are now small retail stores here instead. Just walking this suburb, however, and seeing the sidewalks and geographic elements that Monet once did is quite something. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s5\">3. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Visit the Place du Tertre in Montmartre<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Once the artists arrive in Montmartre, they needed somewhere to make and sell pieces of work. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/10-things-to-see-at-la-place-du-tertre\/\">Place du Tertre<\/a> is the major public square in Montmartre. It is lined by cafes, bistros and bars. He and his fellow professionals would often be sighted sitting for hours at a time in this square \u2014 no doubt waiting for inspiration to hit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When the artists weren\u2019t sitting around they were also occasionally spotted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-10-paintings-see-louvre-museum\/\">painting<\/a> or drawing in the square. The Place du Tertre represented a significant part of what it meant to be an artists in Â鶹APP during that time, especially for Monet. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This space is open to the public daily and is free to enter and enjoy. If you land up here after a guided tour, enjoy lunch or dinner at <i>La M\u00e8re Catherine <\/i>on the northern boundary . <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">4. Sit in a Cafe in Montmartre <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While <i>Caf\u00e9 Guerbois <\/i>was a definite crowd pleaser, this was by no means the only cafe in which Monet spent his recreational hours. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Montmartre has always been saturated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/how-to-choose-a-cafe-in-paris\/\">cafe<\/a> options nestled between the rolling hillside. Some of the very first ones still call this neighborhood home to this day. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A big part of Â鶹APPian art culture is centered around what cafes to hang out in. Le Marais was another popular artists hub, as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/best-hotels-in-the-latin-quarter\/\">Latin Quarter<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">During your ventures in Montmartre, make time to sit at one of the cafes of this suburb. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/5-reasons-to-visit-la-maison-rose\/\"><i>La Maison Rose<\/i> <\/a>is one of the oldest and still one of the most beautiful. The <i>Caf\u00e9 des Deux Moulins<\/i> is my favorite, also very old and also the star of the French film <i>Am\u00e9lie. <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">5. Take a Day Trip Out of Montmartre <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There are few better ways to experience Monet\u2019s Montmartre than to take yourself <i>out<\/i> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/5-historical-facts-about-the-cemetery-of-montmartre\/\">Montmartre<\/a> for a day. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Having spent almost all of his adolescence and teenage years in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-most-beautiful-beaches-in-normandy\/\">Normandy<\/a>, a big part of Monet\u2019s character was based here. The journey takes roughly two hours by train from any of the major train stations.
