Been traveling full-time for over 10 years!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9969\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/wp_20161118_14_36_33_pro.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"738\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/wp_20161118_14_36_33_pro.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/wp_20161118_14_36_33_pro-264x300.jpg 264w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/wp_20161118_14_36_33_pro-610x693.jpg 610w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Why did you start writing <strong>theprofessionalhobo<\/strong>?<\/h4>\n<p>I started my blog back in the \u201cpioneer days\u201d when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.creditwalk.ca\/dear-nora-24-tips-to-be-a-successful-travel-blogger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blogging as a career<\/a> wasn\u2019t even heard of. So for me, like many others at the time, my blog was simply a way to chronicle my full-time travel adventures for family and friends to follow along, as well as for posterity.<\/p>\n<p>At the time I was using a different blog platform and name, but in 2008 after my site gained a lot of international readers (due to my accidentally forming an NGO in Thailand &#8211; long story!), I changed the name to The Professional Hobo and got more serious about blogging.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, I was developing a career as a freelance writer; something that I knew could sustain me with little more than a laptop and internet connection while I traveled.<\/p>\n<h4>Why did you start traveling?<\/h4>\n<p>In 2006, I was in the throes of running a very busy financial planning practice, as well as dabbling in my lifelong passion of performing in musical theater and acting in movies.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, I\u2019d become what you might call \u201ca medium sized fish in a big pond\u201d! I had achieved many of the accoutrements of \u201csuccess\u201d as society would define it, and I lived well. But I just couldn\u2019t satisfy my lifelong itch to travel the world immensely and extensively with standard vacations. And I couldn\u2019t bear to \u201cput in time\u201d for another 30 years until a conventional retirement, when I might not be willing or able to do the sort of traveling I so desperately wanted to do.<\/p>\n<p>So, I sold everything I owned on a wing and a prayer to embrace my dreams of travel. I had no idea where I\u2019d go, how long I\u2019d travel for, nor what I\u2019d do to make money along the way. I just knew I had to go!<\/p>\n<p>You can learn more about my journey to becoming a full-time traveler here: &#8216;How I Became The Professional Hobo&#8217;.<\/p>\n<h4>What&#8217;s special about your blog?<\/h4>\n<p>As I developed my freelance writing career, I noticed an interesting trend; I parlayed my financial expertise into writing about finance for travel publications, and I parlayed my lifestyle travel expertise into writing for finance publications.<\/p>\n<p>It was a great fit, because you need money to travel, and the more creative you are about how you spend and earn your money, the more you can have really interesting travel experiences.<\/p>\n<p>For example, shortly into my full-time travels, I discovered ways to get free accommodation, through volunteering, house-sitting, living on boats, hospitality exchanges, and more.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, I\u2019ve saved well over $100,000 on accommodation expenses, all the while getting a valuable culturally immersive experience (and often some pretty swish accommodations)! I even wrote a book about it: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theprofessionalhobo.com\/travel-tips-resources\/get-free-accommodation-around-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How to Get Free Accommodation Around the World<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>So ultimately, what sets my site apart from other travel blogs, is that I\u2019ve combined my areas of expertise (finance, travel, lifestyle design) into one theme on my site, which is &#8216;How to Travel Full-Time in a Financially Sustainable Way&#8217;.<\/p>\n<h4>What would be your top 3 things to do in Â鶹APP?<\/h4>\n<p>I\u2019ve been to Â鶹APP three times, and I would go back in a heartbeat!<\/p>\n<p>My top three things to do there include taking a boat tour (I\u2019ve done it by day as well as by night, and each have their virtues &#8211; the lights of the city are magic at night, and the daytime tour is better for orienting yourself); visiting some of the world-renowned museums and art galleries (I\u2019m not generally a museum person, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/skip-the-line-orsay-montmartre-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Musee D\u2019Orsay<\/a> and the Louvre are spectacular); and last but certainly not least, wandering the streets aimlessly, finding fun neighbourhood nooks, and discovering a little cafe for a coffee and a <i>pain au chocolat<\/i>!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9968\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1869.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"990\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1869.jpg 607w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1869-197x300.jpg 197w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1869-610x929.jpg 610w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Your top 3 favourite places in Â鶹APP?<\/h4>\n<p>When I travel, I\u2019m generally in a constant state of discovery; wandering around and finding little nooks and crannies, out of the way cafes, charming parks, and culturally immersive experiences.<\/p>\n<p>As such, I really feel that I\u2019ve barely touched the surface in Â鶹APP. The next time I go, I doubt I\u2019ll return to any specific spots; rather, I\u2019ll see what else I can discover!<\/p>\n<h4>Your favorite landmark in Â鶹APP?<\/h4>\n<p>It is probably a draw between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/paris-landmarks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eiffel Tower<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/paris-landmarks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Champs Elysees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Could you give us your recommendation to first timers in Â鶹APP?<\/h4>\n<p>Take a boat tour for sure!
