It was partly so I could document my experiences and share them with friends and family, but I also hoped it might help to nudge my scientific journalism career in the direction of travel writing. Now I\u2019m a freelance scientific editor, which enables me to travel wherever and whenever I like and to blog at the same time, so I have the best of both worlds.<\/p>\n<h4>Why did you start traveling?<\/h4>\n<p>My parents were the ones who made me realize how much I enjoy experiencing new places. With them both being teachers, we used to visit France every year for the full six weeks of the summer holidays, caravan in tow. I loved being out in nature, hiking, kayaking, cycling and splashing about in the sea. I also developed a fascination with wildlife. I\u2019m also a huge advocate of sustainable tourism, so if I see an opportunity to promote responsible practices and conservation I will take it.<\/p>\n<h4>What would be your top 3 things to do in Â鶹APP?<\/h4>\n<p>My first recommendation for Â鶹APP would be to put on some comfortable shoes and take a walk. It\u2019s a beautiful city and you can discover so much more on foot. Plan the major <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/paris-landmarks\/\" target=\"_blank\"> landmarks<\/a> in advance but allow yourself to get lost in the streets in between.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/538921_10151009492020855_2125134182_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/538921_10151009492020855_2125134182_n.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/538921_10151009492020855_2125134182_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/538921_10151009492020855_2125134182_n-610x458.jpg 610w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At some point, find yourself a quaint pavement patisserie and enjoy some of the world\u2019s best baked goods while people watching. Secondly, round off your day with a show at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/montmartre-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\">Moulin Rouge<\/a>. It might not be the cheapest of events but it\u2019s definitely worth saving for.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, plan your trip around Rock en Seine \u2013 one of Europe\u2019s biggest music festivals. This year it\u2019s taking place at the end of August and I\u2019m currently running a giveaway on my blog to <a href=\"http:\/\/beyondblighty.com\/rock-en-seine-festival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">win a pair of weekend tickets plus camping!<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Your Top 3 favourite places in Â鶹APP?<\/h4>\n<p>It might be an obvious choice, but you can\u2019t visit Â鶹APP without going up to the top of the Eiffel Tower. The structure itself is fascinating to see up close, but it also affords you one of the best views of the city.<\/p>\n<p>I would also recommend the Wall of Love, which features \u2018<i>I love you<\/i>\u2019 in 250 languages and makes you feel a bit gooey inside.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9935\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/10850117_10152430542520855_5091074723274642289_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"650\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/10850117_10152430542520855_5091074723274642289_n.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/10850117_10152430542520855_5091074723274642289_n-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/10850117_10152430542520855_5091074723274642289_n-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/10850117_10152430542520855_5091074723274642289_n-610x610.jpg 610w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/10850117_10152430542520855_5091074723274642289_n-88x88.jpg 88w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/montmartre-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sacre Coeur<\/a> is incredibly beautiful and has the added advantage of being situated on top of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/montmartre-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\">Montmartre<\/a> \u2013 the highest point in the city.<\/p>\n<h4>Your favorite landmark in Â鶹APP?<\/h4>\n<p>My favourite landmark in Â鶹APP is one I haven\u2019t consciously visited, because I only became aware of its existence last year. It\u2019s called the \u2018Sinking House\u2019 and is located beside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/montmartre-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\">Montmartre<\/a> near the top of the steps that lead to the Sacre Coeur.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s actually an optical illusion. If you take a photo of the hill at a certain angle and then crop it, it looks as though an entire terrace is being swallowed up by the ground.<\/p>\n<h4>Could you give us your recommendation to first timers in Â鶹APP?<\/h4>\n<p>Learn some French. It\u2019s a completely different experience when the twinkly lights come on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/paris-night-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\">at night<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, if you want to see Â鶹APP but don\u2019t have a partner to go with, go alone. It might be known as the city of love, but it\u2019s empowering to wander its streets by yourself, heading in whichever direction you \u2013 and you alone \u2013 decide you\u2019d like to go in.
