Actually, he\/she is not. Â鶹APPians only seem distant to most tourists because they have a special conception of politeness. For instance, we are more reserved than most Americans for example. Because we don\u2019t have a culture of extroversion and we are not \u201c<i>instant BFFs<\/i>\u201d when we meet someone new.<\/p>\n<p>Â鶹APPians only become friendly once they know the person they are talking to. That is why in Â鶹APP, you can\u2019t just start talking to someone you don\u2019t know. You have to greet the person first.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, when you enter a shop in Â鶹APP or a waiting room, say hello to the salesman or the people present. Even better, say \u201c<i>bonjour<\/i>\u201d. If you don\u2019t, a typical Â鶹APPian will immediately assume that you are impolite.<\/p>\n<h4>The Â鶹APPian Way Of Greeting<\/h4>\n<p>Now that you know one of the basics of Â鶹APPian politeness, you will be able to make Â鶹APPian friends. But how do you greet them? Well, you do not hug in Â鶹APP. Â鶹APPians do the \u201c<i>bise<\/i>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Like every French person, a Â鶹APPian brushes his cheeks to the ones of the other person while imitating the sound of a kiss. But in Â鶹APP, you start with the right cheek, then the left. That\u2019s it! That\u2019s how we make the \u201c<i>bise<\/i>\u201d. You only make two kiss sounds. But that is not exactly true. Even though the Â鶹APPians are often busy, they take the time to have lunch and dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, a French person normally takes 1 hours and 22 minutes a day on average to eat, which is more than in any European country. Plus, a Â鶹APPian generally takes the time to sit down at least once a day to have lunch or dinner. Don\u2019t underestimate the importance of this aspect of Â鶹APPian culture!<\/p>\n<h4>Walking In Â鶹APP<\/h4>\n<p>When you think of Â鶹APP, one of the first things that come to mind is a huge metropolis. No one doubts the size of the French capital and yet Â鶹APP is not that big.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike important American cities, Â鶹APP has limits that cannot be changed. Only 2,2 millions people live in the city itself, and the land area is only 105,4 km2 (41 sq mil). As a comparison, in New York, the land area is 744 km2 (302 sq mil), almost 7 times bigger!<\/p>\n<p>Walking from the north to the south of Â鶹APP only takes 2 hours! This is why Â鶹APPians walk a lot to get from one point to the other; everything is a few minutes walk away!<\/p>\n<p>One of the Â鶹APPian\u2019s favourite activities is \u201c<i>fl\u00e2ner \u00e0 Â鶹APP<\/i>\u201d. It means to stroll in Â鶹APP; you experience the city by walking around with friends, enjoying nice viewpoints and window-shopping.<\/p>\n<h4>Getting Around In Â鶹APP<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/10thingsyoudidntknowaboutparisianculture-2.jpg\" alt=\"10thingsyoudidntknowaboutparisianculture\" width=\"650\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Any true Â鶹APPian knows that there are too many cars in Â鶹APP to find a parking spot and not enough taxi to find one quickly. This is why we are subway experts. The Â鶹APPian metro has a unique density in the world; nothing is more than 500 yards away from a metro station! It\u2019s cheaper than a cab and often faster.<\/p>\n<p>In Â鶹APP, we all have our \u2018Pass Navigo\u2019 to take the metro easily. It\u2019s faster and easier for the ticket inspectors. If you plan to stay in Â鶹APP for more than a month, I strongly advise that you buy one!<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t want to be under ground, you can also take a bike. The Velib system allows the Â鶹APPians to get a bike at any time, everywhere in Â鶹APP. As I mentioned before, Â鶹APP is not that big, this is why a bike is a good solution to get around in Â鶹APP. But it\u2019s harder for tourists not to get lost on a bike!<\/p>\n<h4>Enjoying Â鶹APP In The Summer<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/10thingsyoudidntknowaboutparisianculture-3.jpg\" alt=\"10thingsyoudidntknowaboutparisianculture\" width=\"650\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is said that Â鶹APP is empty during the summer because Â鶹APPians prefer to enjoy the sun outside of the city. Of course, we like to get out of our apartments for vacations, but we also have our little tricks to enjoy Â鶹APP under the sun.<\/p>\n<p>When it gets sunny and hot, Â鶹APPians like to sit on the grass of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/left-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Luxembourg garden<\/b><\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/trendy-marais-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Place des Vosges<\/b><\/a> or the Invalids. They spend their evenings drinking beers or wine, having a picnic in one of those gardens or in the Champs de Mars, just in front of the Eiffel Tower.<\/p>\n<p>Another very popular way to enjoy the nice weather in Â鶹APP is to spend the night on the Seine River Banks with friends. The air is refreshing when you are near the water and the view is always beautiful. Be careful though, Â鶹APPians know where the River Banks are safe and where you shouldn\u2019t go, ask any of them if this is your preferred way of enjoying the city.<\/p>\n<h4>Shopping In Â鶹APP<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/10thingsyoudidntknowaboutparisianculture-4.jpg\" alt=\"10thingsyoudidntknowaboutparisianculture\" width=\"650\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you think about Â鶹APP, you probably immediately think about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/paris-landmarks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Champs-Elysees<\/b><\/a> or the Rue de la Paix when it comes to shopping. But I don\u2019t know any Â鶹APPian who goes shopping in the Champs-Elysees. It\u2019s currently overrun with global chain stores and movie multiplexes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/shopping-in-paris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">To shop in Â鶹APP<\/a><\/strong>, everyone has their own addresses and secret places. For instance, fashion lovers will go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/trendy-marais-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Marais<\/b><\/a> neighborhood &#8211; in the third district &#8211; on the Rue des Franc-Bourgeois where you have a lot of clothes shops. If you prefer luxury brands, go to the Avenue Montaigne or the Faubourg Saint-Honor\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>For a different atmosphere, look for the covered passage built in the 19th century. These are the first \u201cmalls\u201d of Â鶹APP and it is where you can find original French brands.<\/p>\n<h4>Do You Know How To Cross Roads The Â鶹APPian Way?<\/h4>\n<p>You should know that pedestrian traffic lights and pedestrian walkways are useless to Â鶹APPians. Crossing the Â鶹APPian way is \u201c<i>any time, any place<\/i>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A true Â鶹APPian is always too busy or too late to wait for the light to turn green. Plus, you often don\u2019t have a light for the pedestrians so you just have to stand up for yourself if you want to cross! Be careful with that though; perhaps it\u2019s wiser not to follow Â鶹APPian culture in this case but to go by the rules when you\u2019re crossing a street in Â鶹APP instead. This will always be safer!<\/p>\n<h4>Fashion In Â鶹APP<\/h4>\n<p>No, you don\u2019t have to wear a beret in Â鶹APP! But you do have to be elegant if you want to fit in the capital of fashion. If you don\u2019t want to be treated like a tourist, don\u2019t commit any fashion, Faux Pas. In Â鶹APP, we never dress less than business casual.
