And it is host to world-known operas and breathtaking performances. If you want to know where to begin your walk through Chiado<\/a>, I think it is a great place to start. It will follow the cultural dimension of Chiado. Next to S\u00e3o Carlos, you’ll also find the S\u00e3o Luiz Theatre<\/b><\/i>, host to more modern music performances and theatre plays.<\/p>\n

You can also explore nearby streets and have breakfast at Tartine<\/strong><\/i>, or a custard tart at Manteigaria<\/strong><\/i>. For a proper meal, visit the old brewery Trindade<\/strong><\/i>. I\u2019m sure you will be satisfied in any of these places! They are my favorite! I always leave with a full belly and they always put a smile on my face!<\/p>\n

Another thing to do in Chiado area in Lisbon is to visit Convento do Carmo<\/strong><\/i>. This old gothic convent is an iconic symbol of Lisbon. Destroyed by the earthquake of 1755, it was not rebuilt afterwards and it is a testimony to our history in the Lisbon<\/a> landscape. It now hosts the archeological Museum of Carmo, amongst other initiatives and a part of it was also turned into a military building for the National Guard. For its history, symbolic importance and its breathtaking beauty, this is one place you\u2019ll love to visit in Chiado!<\/p>\n

Relax and enjoy a nice view at Adamastor<\/h4>\n

If you are in Lisbon visiting Chiado<\/a>, one thing to do is to discover the viewing points nearby. As you go up from Pra\u00e7a de Cam\u00f5es<\/strong><\/i> to Rua do Loreto<\/strong><\/i>, you\u2019ll find a great viewing point: Santa Catarina<\/strong><\/i>, which is also known as Adamastor<\/strong><\/i>. Here, you\u2019ll find a statue of Adamastor, a mythical creature that threaten the ships during the Discoveries<\/a>, sculpted in reference to Os Lus\u00edadas<\/em>, a famous poem by Lu\u00eds Vaz de Cam\u00f5es that narrates the adventures of the Portuguese into the sea. Because Chiado is uphill, this viewpoint overlooks the slope leading to the river Tagus and it is the perfect place to stop for a little while, relax and enjoy the view.<\/p>\n

Have a quiet and spiritual moment at S\u00e3o Roque, one of Chiado churches<\/h4>\n

S\u00e3o Roque<\/strong><\/i> is one of the few buildings that survived the earthquake of 1755<\/a> and it was given to Santa Casa da Miseric\u00f3rdia<\/i>, which is a non-profit Catholic organization known for its social work. I believe it is an interesting visit as you\u2019ll get to see a building from before 1755. That is something quite rare in Lisbon!<\/p>\n

Join the locals at Bairro Alto<\/h4>\n

Nowadays it\u2019s known for its nightlife and you can also enjoy great meals in the local restaurants of Bairro Alto. I can assure you, you will thoroughly enjoy this area.
