It is made from cow milk all year round and will have a different character throughout the seasons depending on what the cows are fed (hay in winter or grass in summer). Plus, it has a low fat content compared to other cheeses, so you can eat as much as you like!<\/p>\n<h2>4.] Roquefort<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Roquefort.jpg\" alt=\"Roquefort\" width=\"650\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our top 5 French cheeses wouldn&#8217;t be complete without this one! Roquefort is one of the world&#8217;s most famous blue cheeses. Made from sheep milk in the south of France, it is an &#8220;AOC&#8221; cheese, meaning that as a guaranty of its quality, it can only bear the name Roquefort if it has been produced within 100 km of the little village of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon. Its characteristic streaks of green mold comes from a five month ripening period in the caves of the area. With a subtle mild and sharp overall flavor, it is also used in local cuisine to make wonderful sauces or pies!<\/p>\n<h2>3.] Comt\u00e9<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/comte.jpg\" alt=\"comte\" width=\"650\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next up in our top 5 French cheeses is the Comt\u00e9 from the eastern-France region of Franche-Comt\u00e9. It&#8217;s certainly one of the most popular cheeses in France, with over 60.000 tons being produced every year! Among my favorites are Rocamadour and Chabichou du Poitou, from the west of France, or Crottin de Chavignol, from the Loire river valley.
