There are thus plenty of <strong>things to do near the Sainte Chapelle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4>Visit the Notre Dame cathedral<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/NotreDame.jpg\" alt=\"NotreDame\" width=\"650\"><\/p>\n<p>Visiting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/notre-dame-and-the-heart-of-paris-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>Notre Dame cathedral<\/b><\/i><\/a> is the one of the main <strong>things to do near the Sainte Chapelle<\/strong>. Before entering the cathedral, take time to go around and look at the outside of the building. You will see not only numerous sculptures but also the flying buttresses, typical of Gothic architecture. Once inside, I always find the stained glass magnificent. Note the rose window: the style is resonant, in the <i><strong>Sainte Chapelle<\/strong><\/i> it was flamboyant. You can also see the crown of thorn of Jesus inside <i><strong>Notre Dame<\/strong><\/i>. It used to be in the <i><strong>Sainte Chapelle<\/strong><\/i> but was moved when the latter was desacralized. Before leaving, you might want to climb on the rooftop, not only for the magnificent view over Â鶹APP but also for the close-ups on the gargoyles.<\/p>\n<h4>Visit the conciergerie<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/conciergerie.jpg\" alt=\"conciergerie\" width=\"650\"><\/p>\n<p>Among the <strong>things to do near the Sainte Chapelle<\/strong>, you can also visit the <i><strong>Conciergerie<\/strong><\/i>. This building used to be part of the King\u2019s palace from the Xth century up to the XIVth century. It then became a prison. During the French revolution in 1789, over 2000 people were imprisoned there. This is where Queen Marie-Antoinette spent her last night before being executed in 1793. The grand hall with gothic arches is one of my favourite parts of the <i><strong>Conciergerie<\/strong><\/i>.<\/p>\n<h4>Buy flowers at the flower market<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/flower_market.jpg\" alt=\"flower_market\" width=\"650\"><\/p>\n<p>The flower market is almost in front of the <i><strong>Sainte Chapelle<\/strong><\/i>. It is one of the <strong>things to do near the Sainte Chapelle<\/strong> that is the closest. It is there since 1808 and on Sundays, there is also a bird market. I like going there; it gives the opportunity of being a little away from the hassle and bustle of the city. The Queen of England Elizabeth II went there during her last state visit on the 6th June 2014 after commemorating D-Day, and since then, the market is named after her!<\/p>\n<h4>Don\u2019t forget to see \u201cPlace Dauphine\u201d<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/dauphine.jpg\" alt=\"dauphine\" width=\"650\"><\/p>\n<p>Among the <strong>things to do near the Sainte Chapelle<\/strong>, if you head towards the tip of the island, you will see the \u201c<i>Place Dauphine<\/i>\u201d- Dauphine square. One of the oldest squares in Â鶹APP. The mix of brick and stones is typically from the early XVIIth century. I recommend the caf\u00e9s and restaurants here as they are less touristic. Probably the best you will find in the vicinity of the <i><strong>Sainte Chapelle<\/strong><\/i>!<\/p>\n<h4>Have a look at the \u201cPont-Neuf\u201d, Â鶹APP\u2019 oldest bridge<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Pont_Neuf.jpg\" alt=\"Pont_Neuf\" width=\"650\"><\/p>\n<p>Before leaving don\u2019t forget to get a glimpse of the <i><strong>Pont-Neuf<\/strong><\/i>, the oldest bridge in Â鶹APP. It was first to be built in stone, and without any houses on it. It is my personal favourite, for its simplicity and elegance. Just across the bridge, on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/left-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Left Bank<\/a> of Â鶹APP, the <i><strong>Lap\u00e9rouse<\/strong><\/i> restaurant is well known for being the first with private dining rooms, very popular in the XIXth century, but it is expensive and the food is not the best there is.<\/p>\n<h4>Head for the \u201c<i>Ponts des Arts<\/i>\u201d, the bridge for lovers<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_256257\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/pont_des_arts.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-256257\" class=\"wp-image-256257 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/pont_des_arts.jpg\" alt=\"Pont_des_Arts\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/pont_des_arts.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/pont_des_arts-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/pont_des_arts-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-256257\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pont des Arts Photo By Anderson Mancini&nbsp; \/ <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/Main_Page\">Wikimedia Commons<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Going to <i><strong>Pont des Arts<\/strong><\/i> is not the nearest thing to do near the <i><strong>Sainte Chapelle<\/strong><\/i>, count a 10-15 minute walk. <i><strong>Pont des Arts<\/strong><\/i> used to be famous for its tradition: couples put padlocks on the bridge\u2019s railing and throw the key away in the river, so that their love will last forever. But this tradition doesn&#8217;t exist anymore. All the padlocks were removed because they were weighing the bridge and damaging it! You won&#8217;t be able to lock your padlock with your lover, but you will enjoy an incredible view without padlocks ruining it!<\/p>\n<h4>Take a break on the banks<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/SeineBanks.jpg\" alt=\"SeineBanks\" width=\"650\"><\/p>\n<p>A very Â鶹APPian thing to do in summer is to grab a drink, something to eat and settle on the banks of the Seine. This can be very relaxing if you need a break from all this walking and visiting!<\/p>\n<h4>Stroll in the Latin Quarter<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/latin-quarter.jpg\" alt=\"latin-quarter\" width=\"650\"><\/p>\n<p>Strolling in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/left-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Latin Quarter<\/a>, on the left-bank, is also one of the <strong>things to do near the Sainte Chapelle<\/strong> you might want to consider. This student quarter with narrow winding streets, filled with many caf\u00e9s and shops selling food, really feels lively and authentic. You can visit the <i><strong>Pantheon<\/strong><\/i>, built in the XVIIIth century, where famous Frenchmen are buried, like Victor Hugo. If you prefer green spaces, you might want to head for the nearby <i><strong>Luxembourg gardens<\/strong><\/i>.<\/p>\n<h4>Have an ice-cream at Berthillon<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/berthillion.jpg\" alt=\"berthillion\" width=\"650\"><\/p>\n<p>If you need a break from visits and walking, one of the good <strong>things to do near the Sainte Chapelle<\/strong> is to head for <i><strong>Bertillon<\/strong><\/i>, the most-famous ice cream caf\u00e9 in Â鶹APP, located in the middle of the nearby island, \u201cIle Saint-Louis\u201d. The ice-creams are made only from natural products, and are the best ice-creams I have ever had in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/city\/paris-walking-tours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Â鶹APP<\/a>.
