The current bridge was built between 1808 and 1814 by the engineer Lamand\u00e9. It has five arches spanning 28 metres in a circular fashion and four intermediary pillars. It connects Quai Branly, the Champ de Mars and the Eiffel Tower on the left bank to the Trocad\u00e9ro gardens on the right bank.<\/p>\n<p>The bridge is decorated with <span id=\"wb_uid5\">beautiful imperial eagles and is one of the busiest, if not the busiest, bridges of Â鶹APP. Located close to the Eiffel tower, it offers unobstructed views of the tower and the river. The bridge was, as you can imagine,&nbsp; named after the writer, poet and politician, L\u00e9opold S\u00e9dar Senghor (in 2006). Before, it was actually called Passerelle Solferino or the Pont Solferino. The previous structure was inaugurated by Napoleon III back in 1861, and this was named after the French victory in 1859 at the Battle of Solferino.<\/p>\n<p>The bridges that had stood in its place were often being struck by barges, so they were eventually demolished.
