Barcelona Walking tours are probably the best way to discover the city. Even locals when we have time and we’re not in a rush (as we always are…) we love to go walking everywhere. The problem when you visit the city is that sometimes it’s difficult to know which are the best Barcelona Walking Tours<\/b><\/a> but don’t worry, here you’ll find some tips on places to see that will help you.<\/p>\n

\"Barcelona<\/p>\n

There’re many itineraries that you can design, in fact, you can walk all around Barcelona. I’ve selected a very special route based in “must see places” where you can go without public transportation.<\/p>\n

The Gothic Area of Barcelona<\/strong> is one of the most beautiful quarters in Barcelona. It’s called like this because most of the buildings are from the Gothic Period. I suggest you start the tour in Las Ramblas, one of the most famous boulevards in Barcelona. In Las Ramblas you’ll feel the rhythm of the city that seems never sleeps. Make sure you see La Boqueria Market, a symbol of Barcelona. Enjoy its colors and the amazing structure of the building!<\/p>\n

\"Barcelona-fruits\"<\/p>\n

Pay attention while walking up and down Las Ramblas because in the center (close to the Opera House) you’ll see a giant mosaic in the floor done by the Catalan artist Antoni Mir\u00f3. He was so in love with his city that he did this work of art to welcome all the new guests arriving to Barcelona from the harbor (in the end of Las Ramblas). Antoni Mir\u00f3 was a reference in the Catalan and international art history and still nowadays is one of the most loved artists in his country. You can also visit his foundation in Montj\u00fcic totally worth it!<\/p>\n

\"Placa-del-pi\"<\/p>\n

Continue your walk in Pla\u00e7a del Pi and visit Santa Maria del Pi, a gothic church with a very big and beautiful rose window. Then I suggest you get lost in the old Jewish neighborhood, we call it “El call jueu”. It was the quarter where the Jewish community used to live until they were forced to leave in the 14th century and after with the Spanish Catholic reconquest. Visit the old synagogue and the stone tablet from the rabbi found in Montju\u00efc Mountain, their old cemetery (you can also do a Barcelona walking tour there).<\/p>\n

The call ends very close to the most important square in Barcelona, la Pla\u00e7a Sant Jaume. There, you’ll find the palaces of the Catalan and Barcelona government. This is the square where we all meet for demonstrations, celebrations or exhibitions of Catalan culture or traditions like the “Castellers” (human castles). They where declared Immaterial Heritage of the UNESCO in 2010 and the Catalans we are very proud of it. If you have the chance to see them it’s worth the experience!<\/p>\n

\"Barcelona-acrobats\"<\/p>\n

After this majestic square you’ve got to find the roman temple of Barcelona from the 1st century BC and dedicated to the Emperor Augustus. Very close to it there’s another temple, the Cathedral of Barcelona. Don’t forget to visit the beautiful cloister with 13 guess… yes, you can count them, there’s always going to be 13, no more, no less!<\/p>\n

Just next to the Cathedral try to find (it’s quite hidden) one of my favorite places in Barcelona: Pla\u00e7a Sant Felip Neri. This is a lovely square with a dark past: the Italian army bombed it in 1938 and 42 people died; almost all of them were kids. The scars of the tragedy are still visible there.<\/p>\n

If you like vintage clothes or antics, in the square of the Cathedral starts a little street called “Banys Nous”. There you’ll fins old books, jewelry, toys and art form all periods.<\/p>\n

To finish the walk I suggest a cup of coffee in the square where Columbus met the kings of Spain in the 15th Century: The king’s square.<\/p>\n
