They are beautiful, lush grounds with thriving plant life; an apt paradox next to thousands of graves. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Our beloved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/what-you-need-to-know-about-edith-piaf\/\">Edith Piaf<\/a> is buried in this cemetery of the east; one of the biggest, globally recognized artists to ever emerge from Â鶹APP. Today, she holds permanent residency at Perl Lachaise. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Who Was Edith Piaf?<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Sometimes Â鶹APPian locals will refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/what-you-need-to-know-about-edith-piaf\/\">Edith Piaf<\/a> as \u201cThe Little Sparrow\u201d, as she was known from the beginning of her career in Â鶹APP thanks to her petite stature and incredibly nervous energy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Piaf was a Â鶹APPian local herself. She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-songs-that-were-inspired-by-paris\/\">sang only in French<\/a>, but was renowned for being able to emote all of her musical messages to listeners whether they could speak the language or not. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">During <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/world-war-ii-paris\/\">World War II<\/a>, Edith Piaf was the most famous performer in France. She was brought in to provide performances for German soldiers and this launched her further into stardom. It sits just above the Pere Lachaise cemetery. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Piaf was born into intense poverty and raised in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-history-of-le-chabanais-paris-most-luxurious-brothel\/\">brothel<\/a>. Because it is so hard to find there is generally no crowding; most people flock to find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-best-way-to-find-jim-morrisons-grave-in-pere-lachaise\/\">Jim Morisson<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/oscar-wilde-and-his-tragic-death-in-paris\/\">Oscar Wilde<\/a> instead. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">Piaf\u2019s grave is deep within the cemetery, near the central eastern area. One should enter the grounds at the southern tip by the Pierre-Emmanuel Naturel Garden. From here, head south on the main road toward the crematorium.
