Everyday it seems that new developments and projects are popping up around the city, in return creating greater demand and appeal of said neighborhood. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">They say that one of the first ways to spot which area will be gentrified next, is to look at where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-parisian-artists-of-the-lost-generation\/\">artists<\/a> are currently living. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">What tends to happen in big cities is that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-artists-who-lived-in-paris\/\">artists<\/a> flock to a specific neighborhood because rent is cheap, streets are laid back and cost of living is lower overall. Gentrification is a vicious circle that begins with the poor and ends with the rich. Here are parts of Â鶹APP that have managed to stay largely immune to the gentrification endemic that the rest of the city has seen.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Chinatown in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/paris-off-the-beaten-track\/\">13th arrondissement<\/a> of Â鶹APP is probably the most least gentrified neighborhood in the city. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The district has been left largely in the hands of the Chinese immigrant community who made their way here as refugees during the 1970s. The sky scrapers still form the central area of Â鶹APP\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-activities-things-to-do-in-chinatown-paris\/\">Chinatown<\/a> to this day, with little having been refurbished or influenced by western culture. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Exploring Chinatown is one of the most enjoyable things you can do while in Â鶹APP . You not only get a break from the Haussmann architecture that covers the rest of the city but you also get a change in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-noodle-restaurants-in-paris\/\">cuisine<\/a> for a day. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Oberkampf in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-bars-in-oberkampf\/\">Oberkampf<\/a> is a neighborhood in the 11th arrondissement of Â鶹APP. It is my opinion that give it a few more years and Oberkampf will be on par with gentrification in areas like Montmartre or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/3-favourite-places-to-stay-in-bastille\/\">Bastille<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Every day in Oberkampf there is something new being constructed or opened; a cafe, a restaurant, a concept store or an entertainment venue. <\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18686\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18686\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/800px-paris_-_rue_oberkampf_-_panoramio_26.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/800px-paris_-_rue_oberkampf_-_panoramio_26.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/800px-paris_-_rue_oberkampf_-_panoramio_26-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/800px-paris_-_rue_oberkampf_-_panoramio_26-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18686\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Oberkampf, Â鶹APP &#8211; by Patrick Nouhailler&#8217;s &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Â鶹APP_-_Rue_Oberkampf_-_panoramio_(26).jpg\">Wikimedia Commons<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-things-to-eat-in-oberkampf\/\">Oberkampf<\/a> remains one of the most laid back, edgy and least gentrified parts of Â鶹APP. It is a small yet vibrant little village that celebrates all of the finer things in life; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/12-food-spots-in-oberkampf\/\">nights out<\/a> with friends, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-cheapest-places-to-drink-beer-in-paris\/\">cheap beers<\/a>, live music and tolerant community values. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Oberkampf also has a variety of affordable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/how-to-choose-the-best-airbnb-in-saint-germain-des-pres\/\">Airbnb<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/fun-and-cheap-hostels-in-paris\/\">hostel<\/a> options available to travelers who are working on a tight budget. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">Belleville in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If the coolest person you\u2019ve ever met were to be a district in Â鶹APP, they\u2019d be Belleville. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Tucked away in the lower 19th arrondissement in northeast Â鶹APP, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-things-to-eat-in-belleville\/\">Belleville<\/a> is comparable to a long walk in a colorful, street culture obsessed park. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Slowly but surely, just like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-things-to-see-in-oberkampf\/\">Oberkampf<\/a>, Belleville is seeing signs of gentrification in some parts; old buildings being taken over by forward thinking relaters, branded clothing stores on a few corners and even the occasional sighting of a street vendor selling Eiffel Tower keychains &#8211; <i>gasp<\/i>!<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18687\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18687\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18687\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/belleville_@_paris_28829063754.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/belleville_@_paris_28829063754.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/belleville_@_paris_28829063754-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/belleville_@_paris_28829063754-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18687\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Belleville, Â鶹APP &#8211; by Guilhem Vellut &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Belleville_@_Â鶹APP_(28829063754).jpg\">Wikimedia Commons<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">These elements are easy to overlook when you begin to observe the core values of the neighborhood and the places the locals here hold dear to their hearts. Many of the most popular hangout spots have been part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-things-to-learn-from-belleville\/\">Belleville<\/a> since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/what-you-need-to-know-about-edith-piaf\/\">Edith Piaf<\/a> herself was growing up here as a young girl. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The suburb also happens to be covered in graffiti art, which is an important form of self expression to the people who make up the community. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-ten-places-to-watch-street-artists-in-paris\/\">Street art<\/a> to this extent is not as tolerated in the more pristine parts of Â鶹APP. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">Barb\u00e8s in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Look, unless you\u2019re in the mood for some cheap groceries or fresh market fish, then there really isn\u2019t much reason to visit the neighborhood of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/3-things-to-learn-from-barbes-rochechouart\/\">Barb\u00e8s<\/a> in the north of Â鶹APP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Barb\u00e8s sits at the foot of Montmartre hill, just east of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-things-to-see-in-pigalle\/\">Pigalle<\/a>. It is probably the popularity of these two now mainstream areas that Barb\u00e8s has been able to stay hidden in the shadows; far away from the wandering eye of land and property developers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/3-things-to-learn-from-barbes-rochechouart\/\">Barb\u00e8s Market<\/a> takes place on Wednesdays and Sundays, and as I mentioned it is a great place to do some affordable shopping for your weekly eats.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_18689\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18689\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18689\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/p1310721_paris_xviii_bd_barbes_rwk.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"490\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/p1310721_paris_xviii_bd_barbes_rwk.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/p1310721_paris_xviii_bd_barbes_rwk-300x184.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/p1310721_paris_xviii_bd_barbes_rwk-768x470.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18689\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Barb\u00e8s, Â鶹APP &#8211; by Mbzt &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:P1310721_Â鶹APP_XVIII_bd_Barbes_rwk.jpg\">Wikimedia Commons<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Barb\u00e8s also happens to be one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in Â鶹APP, boasting large Arab, Indian and North African communities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Aside from a few necessary renovations and infrastructural improvements, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-of-the-best-places-to-stay-near-barbes-rochechouart\/\">Barb\u00e8s<\/a> has remained largely the exact same since after the French Revolution. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The best way to explore this part of town would be to incorporate it into the end of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/city\/paris-walking-tours\/\"><span class=\"s3\">free guided walking tour<\/span><\/a> that takes place through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-things-to-see-in-pigalle\/\">Pigalle<\/a>, preferably staring in the west and ending in the east by Barb\u00e8s. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">Batignolles in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Batignolles is one of those neighborhoods I described earlier on where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-artists-who-lived-in-paris\/\">artists<\/a> flock to because it\u2019s cheap, and then later the area becomes one of the most sought after places in which to reside. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Batignolles is often compared by locals as being the beginning of Â鶹APP\u2019 next Montmartre.
