href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/top-5-things-you-need-to-know-about-montmartres-windmills\/\">Montmartre<\/a>, it was inevitable that I\u2019d eventually wander on into the Barb\u00e8s district nearby. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Barb\u00e8s neighborhood is situated east of Montmartre and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-bars-in-pigalle\/\">Pigalle<\/a>, at the lower and of the hillsides. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-of-the-best-places-to-stay-near-barbes-rochechouart\/\">Barb\u00e8s Rochechouart<\/a>, more specifically, is the point where the 9th, 10th and 18th arrondissements come together in a single point marked with a metro station.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18426\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" overwhelming popularity of Montmartre tends to leave the area around Barb\u00e8s Rochechouart somewhat in the shadows. This is a part of Â鶹APP yet to have been infiltrated by the hundreds and thousands of tourists that flock to the north for sites like the Sacre Coeur and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/10-reasons-to-visit-the-montmartre-museum\/\">Montmartre Museum<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Barb\u00e8s remains a relatively local part of town. Like all notably local districts in Â鶹APP, the food is good, the street life is vibrant and there is much to see and learn. Here are three major ways my awareness of this area shifted after I made my first visit. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">1. There is a Large Arab Community Living in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The presence of immigrants in Â鶹APP is as common as street art is in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-things-to-learn-from-belleville\/\">Belleville<\/a>; Â鶹APP is an inclusive and eclectic European city &amp; one can find large communities of North <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-5-best-african-restaurants-in-paris\/\">African<\/a>, Indian, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-best-chinese-restaurants-in-paris\/\">Chinese<\/a> and even American people living in different arrondissements. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As you make your way around the lively streets surrounding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-amazing-things-to-eat-in-barbes-rochechouart\/\">Barb\u00e8s Rochechouart,<\/a> you\u2019ll come to realize what a sizable Arab community Â鶹APP holds as well. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You don\u2019t have to venture very deep into Barb\u00e8s to observe this cultural shift. Due to the culturally diverse nature of this suburb, spices and imported coffees also make up a big part of the merchandise. To my delight, olives are taken very seriously in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-food-markets-in-paris\/\">market<\/a> and you can purchase a kilogram of your favorites for under \u20ac4. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The halal influence in the Barb\u00e8s neighborhood means you won\u2019t find any fresh pork for sale in the market place. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Walking through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-amazing-things-to-eat-in-barbes-rochechouart\/\">Barb\u00e8s Rochechouart<\/a> is a sensory overload unlike any other market in Â鶹APP. Between the diversity of foods to the diversity of people, you won\u2019t know where to direct your attention. But living in an inland city always offers a vastly different \u201cfresh fish\u201d scene than staying closer to a coastline does. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In Â鶹APP there are few places where one can purchase truly fresh fish. The kind you choose off of ice and wrap up on the spot. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-flower-market-of-paris\/\">market<\/a> underneath the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-of-the-best-places-to-stay-near-barbes-rochechouart\/\">Barb\u00e8s Rochechouart<\/a> metro there are three fishmongers who rule this little industry in the north of Â鶹APP. I can\u2019t begin to imagine what lengths these three retailers have to go to to obtain the produce that they do, but I know the people of these arrondissements are grateful.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18438\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18438\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18438\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/salmon_for_sale_in_a_parisian_fish_market.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/salmon_for_sale_in_a_parisian_fish_market.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/salmon_for_sale_in_a_parisian_fish_market-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18438\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fish market in Â鶹APP &#8211; by Frank Kovalchek &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Salmon_for_sale_in_a_Â鶹APPian_fish_market.jpg\">Wikimedia Commons<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As you spend the day exploring Barb\u00e8s you\u2019ll pass each fishmonger inevitably. They sell everything from tiny bass all the way to full sized tuna, even the occasional deep water octopus. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The ability of these Barb\u00e8s salesmen to run such a sustainably and consistent business so far from the country\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/how-to-get-to-normandie-beaches-from-paris\/\">coastline<\/a> shows the resourcefulness of the people of this neighborhood. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you\u2019re ever looking for a fresh dinner option then this is where you should head. Grab some salad goods from the vegetable merchants, some fragrant rice from the spice section and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/seafood-restaurants-in-paris\/\">catch of the day<\/a> by the fishmongers \u2014 dinner is served. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">Eating Out Doesn\u2019t Have to Cost a Ton<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This was probably my most appreciated discovery for this part of town. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Being part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/city\/paris-walking-tours\/\"><span class=\"s3\">free guided walking tour<\/span><\/a>s in Â鶹APP means that I end up eating out a lot. Grabbing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-all-important-history-of-the-baguette\/\">baguette<\/a> in a plaza after a tour or stopping foo meet friends for food en route home is so quick &amp; easy it\u2019s hard to resist. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You\u2019ll quickly come to realize that in Â鶹APP, this adds up. Eating out, particularly in the central districts such as le Marais or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/3-favourite-places-to-stay-in-bastille\/\">Bastille<\/a>, isn\u2019t cheap \u2014 but it is a lot of fun. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The streets around B<a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-of-the-best-places-to-stay-near-barbes-rochechouart\/\">arb\u00e8s Rochechouart<\/a> merge eating out and affordability into one. At Boulom you pay a fixed rate to enjoy an open bar and all you can eat buffet of fine dining. At just \u20ac29 per person this is hardly an experience to pass up. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Connecting with the Arab community in this part of Â鶹APP also made way for many new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/discover-the-new-middle-eastern-restaurants-in-paris-you-need-to-try\/\">Middle-Eastern cuisine<\/a> restaurants in my life. Riv\u2019k brings me back time and time again for their small plates and hot tea.
