It\u2019s raw, it\u2019s rough and it\u2019s real; the three \u201cr\u201ds of Belleville. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There is much to learn from this part of Â鶹APP that is yet to be saturated by tourists and consumerism. While everything I\u2019m about to tell you remains true and relevant, Belleville is a place you need to see for yourself in order to understand. Be sure to set aside an afternoon during your time in Pairs to make your way to the east for a few hours. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">1. Like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/20-things-to-do-in-montmartre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montmartre<\/a>, Belleville is a hilltop village and as a result this park boasts beautiful panoramic views over Â鶹APP. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Visit by night and you\u2019ll see the Eiffel Tower gleaming in the distance. By day there is a children\u2019s playground, a vineyard and a museum for visitors to enjoy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Just slightly north of Belleville is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/a-complete-guide-to-the-buttes-chaumont-park-in-paris\/\">Parc des Buttes-Chaumont<\/a>; another exquisite public space that has a lake and waterfall in the center. Street art is definitely alive in other parts of Â鶹APP, but in much smaller, more contained portions when compared to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-ten-places-to-watch-street-artists-in-paris\/\">art scene<\/a> in Belleville. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Just about every wall, trash can and garage door in Belleville features all encompassing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/paris-street-art\/\">graffiti<\/a> art. A place where street culture exists outside of the usual censorship and restrictions that govern the wealthier suburbs today. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">3. Aux Folies Isn\u2019t Going Anywhere <\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p10\"><span class=\"s1\">8 Rue de Belleville<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As mentioned, Rue Denoyez is the \u201cstreet art mile\u201d of Belleville. On the corner of this street is Aux Folies; a authentic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/top-5-brasseries-of-montmartre\/\">Â鶹APPian Brasserie<\/a> housed in an old cabaret house from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-places-to-experience-the-1920s-in-paris\/\">20s<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Aux Folies is considered by locals to be one of the best bar\/restaurant hybrids in all of Â鶹APP. They serve full breakfast, lunch and dinner menus and then transform into a vibrant nightlife venue in the last few hours of the evening. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s always packed, be it first thing in the morning or last call before closing. The street seating gives you the perfect vantage point over the warm Belleville evenings but you\u2019ll have to get here early if you want to get a table. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">4. Edith Piaf\u2019s Hometown Had Soul<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I often get questions about<a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/what-you-need-to-know-about-edith-piaf\/\"> Edith Piaf<\/a> during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/city\/paris-walking-tours\/\"><span class=\"s4\">free guided walking tours<\/span><\/a>. Her impact on people spans across continents and her essence is still very present in Â鶹APP, even to people who don\u2019t live here. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Edith Piaf grew up in Belleville. It is now a private museum that one can make a booking to visit. Alternatively you can simply walk there and admire the space from the street. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You know this suburb has soul if it produced an icon like that \u2014 <i>merci<\/i>, Belleville. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p9\"><span class=\"s1\">5. There Are Still Affordable Neighborhoods in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I don\u2019t think there is a neighborhood in Â鶹APP that remains fully untouched by gentrification, but Belleville comes pretty close. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Despite a few modern developments and infrastructural upgrades, this village remains an artists town; and artists towns are always more affordable. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Rent in Belleville is considerably lower than other areas in Â鶹APP.
