In Lisbon, go to the large museums for the classics and the galleries for the contemporary!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">What\u2019s more, supporting smaller galleries around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/a-quick-guide-to-lisbons-architecture\/\">Lisbon<\/a> helps keep the flow of art in this city alive. Without them there is little to not spotlight on emerging Portuguese artists or platforms from which they can make a name for themselves. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here are some of the top galleries in Lisbon that you simply must visit while in town. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Galeria de Arte AFK in Lisbon <\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Rua Professor Fernando da Fonseca 21A<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the north of the city, near the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-best-6-cafes-of-lisbon\/\">Lisbon<\/a> stadium, a new gallery is the talk of the neighborhood. The AFK art gallery is relatively new on the scene having only opened its doors quite recently in 2012. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Focusing on photography and painting, the gallery aims to promote works of both local and international artists who are new on the scene themselves. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The curation of their photographic exhibitions is particularly notable. The space is dedicated to the man himself and a beautiful experience for anyone interested in ceramics. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">S\u00e3o Mamede Galeria de Arte in Lisbon<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">R. da Escola Polit\u00e9cnica 167<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Lisbon\u2019s <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Principe Real<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/lisbon-during-world-war-ii\/\"><span class=\"s3\"> neighborhood <\/span><\/a><span class=\"s1\">has slowly transformed into one of the creative districts over the last few decades. The S\u00e3o Mamede gallery is a contemporary art space that was established toward the end of the 60s. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I found this gallery by accident one day while walking back from the Lisbon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-best-picnic-spots-in-lisbon\/\">Botanical Gardens<\/a> nearby. From still photography to surrealist paintings and even sculpture; the gallery has done so well that they have been able to open up a second location in Porto. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Visit any day except for Sunday. Stay walking on this road if you have time for a few more galleries, there are a few more next-door and down the street. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">Alecrim 50 Galeria de Arte in Lisbon<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\">R. do Alecrim 50<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Chiano neighborhood is one of the trendier and more vibrant of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/what-to-do-in-lisbon-in-alfama\/\">Alfama<\/a>. It\u2019s no surprise then that this would be a great place to view some galleries. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Alecrim 50 has been open since 2006. They give preference to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/what-are-pasteis-de-nata-the-portuguese-dessert-you-need-to-try\/\">Portuguese<\/a> artists and offer lengthy representation for the artists as opposed to just a spot in a single exhibit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">They currently support all of the arts and are open to whatever the artists bring to the table. If you were to visit today you can expect a mix of paining, photography and sculpture in the space. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The neighborhood of Chiano is a wonderful place to waste a day. Amongst the galleries there are restaurants, bars, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-best-6-cafes-of-lisbon\/\">cafes<\/a> and other vibrant street life .<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">Galeria 111 in Lisbon<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\">Campo Grande 113<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This gallery was founded in 1964 by the well known <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-10-portuguese-desserts\/\">Portuguese<\/a> gallerist Manuel de Brito. They hold impressive exhibitions that bring these artists together into a space centered mostly around paining and sculpture. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Campo Grande district can feel slightly out of town, considering it is almost as far north as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-ultimate-lisbon-shopping-guide\/\">Lisbon<\/a> airport. It is however a beautiful and very green neighborhood to roam around, especially if you\u2019re in need of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/things-to-do-in-lisbon-in-may\/\">break from the city<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art in Lisbon <\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\">R. Santo Ant\u00f3nio \u00e0 Estrela 33<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As the name suggests, this gallery was founded in 2001 by Ms Cristina Guerra herself. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The gallery represents 20 individual artists at any give time. Impressively they currently have Bronx-native Lawerence Weiner on the books. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Through frequent exhibitions the gallery does well to keep these artists in business and producing works that are widely purchased by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-10-portuguese-dishes-you-should-try\/\">Portuguese<\/a> public.
