They\u2019ll nod and pretend they know exactly where the speaker is referring to, blissfully unaware of what the structure truly embodies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Canal Saint Martin is a 4.6 km long canal that stretches from the Canal d\u2019Ourcq in the north all the way down to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/how-to-enjoy-the-river-seine\/\">Seine River<\/a> in the south. It was part of a design commissioned by Napoleon I as part of his plan to bring in ample fresh water to the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">More interestingly than this boring construction history, the canal is drained every ten or so years by the city of Â鶹APP. It is always an event amongst locals to see what turns up at the bottom of the structure once the water is gone. There is also a barge that takes people on trips along the canal throughout the day. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/things-near-canal-saint-martin\/\">Canal Saint Martin<\/a> runs through a few Â鶹APPian arrondissements it is a preferable attraction to stay near to when in Â鶹APP. If you can\u2019t be on the Seine, then the Canal Saint Martin is a close enough second. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Along the river there are a few great places to stay. You\u2019ll watch the many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/city\/paris-walking-tours\/\"><span class=\"s3\">free guided walking tour<\/span><\/a>s go past right from your window. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The hotel is right on the corner where the canal meets the Square des R\u00e9collets. There is a park here with ample green space to waste the days away. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Upon arriving at this little hotel you\u2019ll be given an iPad. The device is preloaded with music, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-must-visit-movie-locations-of-paris\/\">movies<\/a>, maps and information regarding tourist attractions in the area. They feature light wood finishes and interesting art. If you need to be near the Canal Saint Martin, this is the hotel you want to be at. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">2. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Hotel Garden near Canal Saint Martin <\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">35 Rue Yves Toudic<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Not quite on the heels of the canal the way the previous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/our-recommended-3-star-hotels-in-paris\/\">hotel<\/a> was, but close enough; the Hotel Garden is directly across the bridge from the Citizen Hotel. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For somewhat affordable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/our-recommended-4-star-hotels-in-paris\/\">accommodation<\/a> in a great location in the 10th arrondissement, the Hotel Garden is not a bad second choice if out beloved Le Citizen Hotel happens to have sold out their twelve rooms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The exterior of the Garden Hotel will have swooning. Cream colored walls with a blooming pink flower box on each window pane. Guests have the option of dining in the designated dining area or enjoying their breakfast on the outside terrace provided that the weather is good. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Just next door to the Garden Hotel is the Alhambra Theatre. This is a popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-reasons-why-the-olympia-hall-is-the-greatest-concert-venue-in-paris\/\">music hall<\/a> that features a number of performances per week; definitely worth checking out since you\u2019ll be staying so close by. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Along with the music hall, this area around the canal comes alive at night. There are restaurants and bars on every corner and people stroll the banks of the canal until all hours of the morning. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s4\">3. La Planque Hotel <\/span><span class=\"s1\">near Canal Saint Martin<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">3 Rue Arthur Groussier<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Back to the left bank of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-things-to-eat-near-canal-saint-martin\/\">Canal Saint Martin<\/a> we go for our last hotel in this lineup. La Planque Hotel is slightly further from the canal, three or so blocks further inland. For a few euros entry you can start your day with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-best-places-to-swim-in-paris\/\">swim<\/a> each morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The hotel itself has the coziest vibe out of the lot. Inside the space is filled with homestyle memorabilia and collectables that feel like your aunt\u2019s holiday home you knew in your childhood. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The rooms are colorfully quirky without being kitsch. Tasteful would be the best way to describe La Planque Hotel. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/best-breakfast-places-in-paris\/\">Breakfast<\/a> here is not included and you\u2019ll have to fork out an additional \u20ac13 per person per day to dine. What\u2019s on offer? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-pastries-to-try-while-in-paris\/\">Pastries<\/a>, hams, cheeses and all the bread you can imagine. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you prefer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-amazing-things-to-eat-in-saint-michel\/\">eat out<\/a>, there is a wonderful Cambodian restaurant on the same road as La Planque. You\u2019ll find Le Petit Cambodge if you walk out of the hotel and head south toward the canal.
