Don\u2019t we all. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/best-things-to-do-in-paris-19th-district\/\">19th<\/a> century was a time of great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/how-paris-is-changing-new-projects\/\">change<\/a> to the city of Â鶹APP, particularly when it came to the aesthetics of the streets and buildings. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It was during this time that Napoleon the III issued an order for the city to undergo a series of upgrades and renovations. The Medieval times left behind shabby vicinities and poor infrastructure, and the leader saw room for improvement in these areas. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The project was interested over to a man named Georges-Eugene Haussmann. After quite the rambunctious past, it is today one of the finest private museums in Â鶹APP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Unlike many of the other Â鶹APPian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/best-free-museums-in-paris\/\">museums<\/a>, the Jacquemart-Andre is perfectly doable to its entirety in one day. In just a few hours, rather. It is grand in scale, yes, but not the same kind of scale that vicinities such as the Mus\u00e9e de l\u2019Arm\u00e9e or Louvre inhabit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You\u2019ll find it over in the 8th arrondissement of Â鶹APP not far from the Parc Monceau. I recommend a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/city\/paris-walking-tours\/\"><span class=\"s2\">guided walking tour<\/span><\/a> for both the museum and this arrondissement. Andr\u00e9 happened to be the heir to a very wealthy Protestant banking family and sought to build the house of his dreams on the land. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The task was entrusted over to a contractor named Henri Parent who completed the masterpiece in 1875. Objects and artifacts made from golds and silver, miniature statues and impressive tapestries lined the walls of his newly finished home. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">An artist who shared his enthusiasm for collecting was a woman named Nelie Jacquemart. After purchasing one of her paintings the two were eventually married in 1881. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Together they travel far and wide in search of their favorite pieces to fill their happy home. From Italy to Cairo, Athens to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-best-moroccan-restaurants-in-paris-in-2019\/\">Morocco<\/a> \u2014 there was no where these two weren\u2019t willing to go to collect their art. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It was their travels to Italy that inspired the overall Italian Renaissance theme of the finality of the mansion. She spent the next few years doing exactly as they had done throughout their marriage; collecting more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-10-artworks-to-hunt-down-in-paris\/\">art<\/a> and more furniture than her house could hold. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">So much so, that in 1902 Jacquemart had to purchase an additional property, known as the Chateau de Chaalis, in Oise just outside of Â鶹APP. It replicates what you will find in the Jacquemart-Andr\u00e9 mansion today: an elaborate collection of exquisite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-amazing-artworks-you-need-to-see-at-the-musee-dorsay\/\">artworks<\/a> and decor. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ten years later, in 1912, Nelie Jacquemart passed away. A collection of works that, had she not thought ahead, would likely have been sold off at auction to the highest bidder. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There is solace in the thought that this is not the way this mansion saw its end. The tale of how this space came together is one of mutual love and appreciation for the arts of the world. Two individuals well off enough to roam the planet in support of both unknown and successful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-10-paintings-see-louvre-museum\/\">artists<\/a> just trying to keep their crafts alive. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Exhibitions at the Jacquemart-Andr\u00e9 Mansion in Â鶹APP <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Being a mansion style vicinity, the museum is laid out in a systematic way that allows for the best possible flow through the space. Being a private <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/things-to-do-near-paris-picasso-museum\/\">museum<\/a>, it is almost never crowded but it\u2019s nice to work through as the coordinators intended. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Much of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/things-to-do-near-orsay-museum-paris\/\">museum<\/a> is made up of what is known as the permanent collections. Not long ago, the mansion paid homage to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-10-artworks-to-hunt-down-in-paris\/\">Rembrandt<\/a> and put on a beautiful collective display of his works for a short period of time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/best-secret-museums-of-paris\/\">museum<\/a> has separate payment options for individuals just seeking access to the temporary exhibitions and not the permanent ones as well. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">The Picture Gallery at the Jacquemart-Andr\u00e9 Mansion in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">During their marriage, Jacquemart and Andr\u00e9 held some of the grandest gatherings for the Â鶹APPian elite right there within their home. I love the feeling of being in this space for a few minutes before the rest of the tour takes place. You are both in absolute awe of the detail and thought that clearly went into the layout, and deeply in anticipation to see more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">The Winter Garden at the Jacquemart-Andr\u00e9 Mansion in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Because of the renovations that Â鶹APP saw under the reign of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-fun-facts-about-napoleon\/\">Napoleon<\/a> III, the 8th arrondissement is not short on outdoor entertainment areas. A parlor located behind the Music Room; made entirely out of glass, marble and plant life. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The intention was for guests to have a space to take a break from dancing, have a cigarette or simply put their feet up for a few minuets. The couple also wanted residing guests to have somewhere to enjoy nature in the mornings without actually having to go outside. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Even the ceiling of this room is made of glass to get you as close to the outside as possible. During the Â鶹APPian winter it was a welcome little nook in the mansion where one could acquire a dose of Vitamin D without bracing the cold. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">The Library at the Jacquemart-Andr\u00e9 Mansion in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The most secluded room in the mansion was originally intended to be the official apartment of Nelie Jacquemart. It was what you\u2019d expect a library space to look like \u2014 a very, elaborate, curated library that is. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Since becoming a museum, the books have been removed and just the art left up for display. It\u2019s interesting to imagine both Jacquemart and Andr\u00e9 actually in the space plotting the very home you are currently standing in. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">The Music Room at the Jacquemart-Andr\u00e9 Mansion in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the spirit of saving the best for last, I bring you to the Jacquemart-Andr\u00e9 Music Room; a room intended solely for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-places-to-dance-in-paris\/\">dancing<\/a> \u2014 imagine! <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This is a double story space with a hollow interior, so both floors can see one another at all times. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On the top floor, the orchestra would gather and play all night long for the guests of the lovers.
