This pride extends from their vast collection of museums all the way through to the local born artists who created the works that fill them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Some Âé¶¹APPian born and bred <i>artistes<\/i>?<a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/5-fascinating-facts-about-picasso\/\"> Pablo Picasso<\/a>\u2026 \u00c9douard Manet\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-facts-you-should-know-about-claude-monet\/\">Claude Monet<\/a>\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-fun-facts-about-van-gogh\/\">Vincent van Gogh<\/a>\u2026 ring any bells?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While not all of the greats can claim French nationality, many made the choice to relocate to this eclectic city and to make it their base for creating art. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">They found the city exciting and inspiring; much to see and learn &amp; in turn, create with. Despite being Spanish born, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-interesting-facts-about-salvador-dali\/\">Salvador Dali<\/a> spent much of his career based in Âé¶¹APP. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Âé¶¹APP today is still the number one destination on every struggling artists list. Many long to see and feel for themselves what the great creators did back in the day \u2014 &amp; some of the contemporary names still do today. Each one boasts an unfathomable collection of artworks ranging from paintings, sculpture, preserved manuscripts and artifacts, ornaments, furniture, photography \u2014 the works. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Within the walls of some of these museums are a handful of the greatest pieces of art known to humanity. What could be more fun than meandering the corridors of these historic buildings and hunting a few of them down? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here are 10 unmissable artworks that you simply <i>must<\/i> go find while you\u2019re visiting this global artists hub. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"s1\">1. Leonardo da Vinci &#8211; Mona Lisa<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">The Louvre <\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The obvious choice to start this list, yes. Nevertheless one simply can\u2019t be in Âé¶¹APP and not pay a quick visit to our favorite girl, Lisa. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Im sure you\u2019ve heard the rumors: \u201cIt\u2019s so tiny\u201d, \u201cIt\u2019s not that impressive\u201d, \u201cYou can\u2019t get close to her\u201d, \u201cIt\u2019s definitely not the original\u201d. I say; why don\u2019t you go and see for yourself? In 1797 the painting was added to the permanent collection of the world famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-10-paintings-see-louvre-museum\/\">Louvre Museum<\/a> in the 1st arrondissement. It has been the main attraction to the space ever since, and is possibly the most famous painting in the world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">What makes this piece so interesting is the untold mystery of the smirk on the face of the woman, Lisa Gherardini. She was also depicted void of eyebrows, which was another unexplained decision made by da Vinci. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The 1st arrondissement is a great neighborhood to view via a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/city\/paris-walking-tours\/\"><span class=\"s3\">free guided walking tour<\/span><\/a>. The Louvre is but one of the impressive attractions in the district. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Museum admission: \u20ac9<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">2. Pablo Picasso &#8211; Arlequin in Âé¶¹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">The Centre Pompidou<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The harlequin is a subject that was explored many times by Picasso throughout his painting career. This particular one was competed in 1923, and is my personal favorite. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It can be viewed at the The Centre Pompidou in the 4th arrondissement along with a few other beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/what-to-do-in-the-picasso-museum-in-paris\/\">Picasso<\/a> works. Half drawn onto the canvas and the rest painted. This is one of Picasso\u2019s more avant-garde works created in a post-war Âé¶¹APP. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The museum itself is an exquisite space and the lobby is free to enter. You\u2019ll have to pay to get access to<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>all of the main collections. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Museum admission: \u20ac12<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">3. Rembrandt &#8211; Les P\u00e8lerins d\u2019Emma\u00fcs in Âé¶¹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">The\u00a0Mus\u00e9e Jacquemart-Andr\u00e9\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Mus\u00e9e Jacquemart-Andr\u00e9\u00a0is a private museum situated in the 8th arrondissement. It is actually the former home of \u00c9douard Andr\u00e9 and N\u00e9lie Jacquemart and features all of the elaborate artworks that they collected during their lives together. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The space is utterly magnificent. The epitome of the French <i>bourgeoisie <\/i>throughout the ages. You can imagine the tone of the house if the owners were able to afford a casual Rembrandt original from the 1600s.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14516\" style=\"width: 695px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14516\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14516\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/mja3025_v3_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"685\" height=\"596\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/mja3025_v3_c.jpg 685w, https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/mja3025_v3_c-300x261.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 685px) 100vw, 685px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-14516\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Les P\u00e8lerins d\u2019Emma\u00fcs by rembrandt &#8211; by The\u00a0Mus\u00e9e Jacquemart-Andr\u00e9 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musee-jacquemart-andre.com\/fr\/oeuvres\/pelerins-demmaus\">Sourced from their website<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The house is home to one of Rembrandt\u2019s finest pieces depicting Jesus identifying himself to two pilgrims in the town of Emma\u00fcs; the <em>Les P\u00e8lerins d\u2019Emma\u00fcs<\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It is an interesting and mystical representation of this supposed event in history. I am always in awe of paintings that are able to reflect candlelight so accurately. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This is one of Rembrandt\u2019s earliest works but is considered to be one of his best. Âé¶¹APP is lucky to have this piece considering that the artist was actually Dutch. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Museum admission: \u20ac14.50<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">4. Van Gogh &#8211; Self-Portrait <\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Situated right on the bank of the Seine is the wonder that is the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay. This space is probably considered the most famous museum in Âé¶¹APP after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-best-way-to-visit-the-louvre-museum\/\">Louvre<\/a>. Though the artists was known for painting many of these throughout his career (over 30 known to exist), the one housed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-reasons-to-visit-the-orsay-museum\/\">Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay<\/a> is considered the most famous as it is the last one he managed to complete before his death. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">What\u2019s interesting to see is the somewhat resemblance of the paining background to his earlier work of <em>Starry Night<\/em>. Art lovers also enjoy debating the melancholic look on his face and why exactly he might have chosen to depict himself as such. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Museum admission: \u20ac14 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">5. Gauthier de Campes &#8211; La Tenture de Saint Etienne in Âé¶¹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">The\u00a0Mus\u00e9e National du Moyen Age<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When you find yourself in the area of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-things-to-see-in-the-latin-quarter\/\">Latin Quarter<\/a>, walk yourself over the The\u00a0Mus\u00e9e National du Moyen Age \u2014 also known as the Cluny Museum. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In this beautifully preserved gothic building you\u2019ll find one of my favorite paintings in all of Âé¶¹APP, de Campes\u2019 <em>La Tenture de Saint Etienne<\/em>. It is shown through 23 individual scenes depicting the essence of medieval French history. It is an erotic depiction of a bunch of women gathered together in the bath area of a harem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The color pallet of the work is incredible as is the detail of the skin of each woman in the piece. Monet wished to depict the visuals of the water and it\u2019s lilies at different points of the day. His impressionistic style is perfect for the scenes and the size of each panel really adds to the overall impact when viewing in person. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Monet was a notorious lover of ponds and the secrets that they held. He is known to have painted them over 200 times, these eight works of The Lilies included. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Museum admission: \u20ac9<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">8. Marcel Duchamp &#8211; Fontaine<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\">The Centre Pompidou<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Back to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/paris-museums-tips\/\">The Centre Pompidou<\/a> we go for another famous work by artist Marcel Duchamp. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em>Fontaine<\/em> was created in 1917 and it is said that the artist never took the piece, nor himself very seriously. In 1917 the artist submitted this piece of plumbing as an exhibition in New York City. Claude Monet &#8211; Impression Soleil Levant in Âé¶¹APP<\/span><\/h4>\n<h6 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">The\u00a0Mus\u00e9e Marmottan-Monet<\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When in Âé¶¹APP\u2026 follow around Monet. Another enticing piece by the local artist is <i>Impression, Sunrise<\/i> painted in France in 1872. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The piece depicts the port of Monet\u2019s hometown in France, Le Havre. The sun is rising over the water as the ships and boats float in. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This painting is widely considered to be the piece that pioneered the way for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/impressionism-in-paris-the-painters-and-the-city\/\">Impressionist<\/a> movement. It threw away the era of traditional painting and made way for a more risk taking approach to creating imagery. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The\u00a0Mus\u00e9e Marmottan-Monet, located in the 16th arrondissement, is home to a collection of over 300 original Monet works and is an absolute feast for the senses.
