For some this could be due to the fact that the neighborhoods of the 11th are somewhat a grey area in terms of where one ends and the next starts. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">R\u00e9publique seems to blend into Bastille, and somewhere in that mix is both the start and the end of the area known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/12-food-spots-in-oberkampf\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Oberkampf<\/span><\/a>; which is the point of our focus today!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Other than the Place de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/things-to-do-near-bastille-in-paris\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Bastille<\/span><\/a>, the 11th doesn\u2019t really harbor many recognizable landmarks that would make a neighborhood more well known. It is also known as the district to visit if you\u2019re into the more alternative party scene. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It is a neighborhood that is still incredibly local and not bombarded by tourists trying to take the perfect selfie. I\u2019ve put together a list of ten things to see should you find yourself en route to this enticing little area \u2014 read on! <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s3\">1.<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> March\u00e9 des Enfants Rouges<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> in <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Oberkampf<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">March\u00e9 des Enfants Rouges is the oldest known market in Â鶹APP that is still in full operation. The market has been running since 1615\u2026 thats over 400 years of service. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-best-open-markets-in-paris\/\"><span class=\"s2\">market<\/span><\/a> is situated on rue de Bretagne and is in full operation six days a week. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here you\u2019ll find an array of fresh produce and locally made foods. They sell the most delicious imported treats that are otherwise not often found outside of Japan. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I love that this market is open until 7:30pm daily, giving ample time for people with full time jobs to visit after work. Who needs shopping centers when you have the Enfants Rouges?<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">2. Eglise Saint-Ambroise in <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Oberkampf<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Eglise Saint-Ambroise is the main church attraction within the vicinity of Oberkampf. In terms of scale, it is nowhere near as grand as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/the-best-way-to-visit-notre-dame-de-paris\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Notre Dame<\/span><\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/things-to-do-around-the-sacre-coeur-paris\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Sacr\u00e9-Coeur<\/span><\/a> Basilica; it is, however, still incredibly beautiful. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you are pressed for time then a walk past the church will suffice. You could even consider incorporating it into your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/customize-half-day-paris\/\"><span class=\"s2\">customized walking tour in Â鶹APP<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The exterior is equally as ornate at the interior and can give a good enough idea of what the space represents. If anything, go to appreciate the handiwork that went into the construction. Gawk\u2026 marvel\u2026 then leave. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">3. Passage l\u2019Homme in <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Oberkampf<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">One of those hidden gems that you\u2019d completely miss if I didn\u2019t tell you where to look; Passage l\u2019Homme remains one of the best kept secrets in Oberkampf. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On rue de Charonne between a bookshop and a cafe there comes a gap in the wall where you can proceed through to enter the Passage l\u2019Homme. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-covered-passages-not-miss-paris\/\"><span class=\"s2\">passage<\/span><\/a> is 122 meters long and although it is surrounded by some of the noisiest streets in Â鶹APP, once inside the space is entirely calm. All you can hear are the tapping of feet against the cobblestones and the occasional squeak of a window pane from the apartments above. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Residents of this magical passage put effort into maintaining a range of plant life down on the street. The ambiance of it all is something to write home about. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Â鶹APP is actually full of passages just like this, if you know where to look. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">During the Middle Ages craftsmen preferred making use of the more private roads for their work as they found the main streets too chaotic. The Smoking Museum in <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Oberkampf<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Whether you\u2019re a smoker or not, the Smoking Museum in Oberkampf is a not to be missed attraction to anyone visiting the neighborhood. I had zero expectations coming into this space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> The concept of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-unmissable-history-museums-in-paris\/\"><span class=\"s2\">museum<\/span><\/a> dedicated to smoking was beyond me. But off I went and paid my \u20ac2 entrance fee. The museums collection of century old snuff-boxes, ancient cigarettes and clay pipes dating back to the 17th century was a delight to witness. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While smoking in the actual museum is strictly prohibited, it does feature a sectioned-off lounge in which patrons can experiment with vaping. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you\u2019re looking to have an informative yet incredibly light afternoon, the Smoking Museum is the spot. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You\u2019ll leave feeling a heightened sense of understanding for the human beings with whom you share the planet \u2014 and how they\u2019ve come to love this destructive pastime so much. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">5. Mus\u00e9e Picasso in <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Oberkampf<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Sticking with the museum theme we head over to rue de Thorigny where the National <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/things-to-do-near-paris-picasso-museum\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Picasso museum<\/span><\/a> is situated. Â鶹APP\u2026 meet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-indian-restaurants-in-paris\/\"><span class=\"s2\">India<\/span><\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Passage Brady is an old Â鶹APPian arcade that is still standing from 1828. One half features an ornate glass rooftop and the other side is completely open air. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This passage is sometimes referred to by locals as \u201clittle India\u201d. The Rue D\u00e9noyez is an alley filled wall to wall, floor to sky, with colorful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/paris-street-art\/\"><span class=\"s2\">street art<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The alley used to be home to a collection of boutique style shops. The alley is a lot bigger than you are probably imagining. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The scale of some of the pieces is quite incredible to behold and definitely worth the walk over while in Oberkampf or any of the surrounding areas . <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Nothing on this street has been left untouched. The walls, windows, sign posts, trash cans and fencing are coated in the art of individuals who have come and gone. Enter the alley via either Rue de Belleville or Rue Ramponeau. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">8. La Petite Fripe in <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Oberkampf<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Vintage stores in Oberkampf are known to come and go with the seasons. Since the area doesn\u2019t see as much foot traffic as the more well known parts of Â鶹APP it is not easy for business to last extensive periods of time if they aren\u2019t doing well to begin with. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">La Petite Fripe is one institution that has stood the test of time in Oberkampf. And reasonably priced too. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">La Petite Fripe doesn\u2019t stop at clothing. There is also an extensive collection of vintage telephones, sunglasses and cameras. Even a few old motorcycle helmets incase you meet a kind stranger with a Vespa on your travels \u2014 you never know. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fine La Petite Fripe on Avenue de la R\u00e9publique; it is open seven days a week!<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">9. Mizmiz in <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Oberkampf<\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I\u2019m truly a sucker for anything weird and wonderful. It\u2019s no surprise that I\u2019m drawn to this very random night spot in Oberkampf. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Mizmiz is this eccentric hybrid space that doubles as a Moroccan restaurant and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top-5-places-with-live-music-in-paris\/\"><span class=\"s2\">music<\/span><\/a> venue all in one. As the night descends the space slowly shifts into a dance bar \u2014 the music varies depending on the day of the week. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The best thing about Mizmiz (aside from its affordability) is that it stays open until 4am. This is a lot later than most of the other venues in the area and as a result Mizmiz becomes <i>the<\/i> spot to be when there is simply no where else to go. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">All in all, its an alternative night out in Â鶹APP that you wont easily forget. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">10. Whether your taste is jazz, heavy metal, chanson fran\u00e7aise or pop, you\u2019ll find something in the lineup to tickle your fancy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The location of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-reasons-why-the-olympia-hall-is-the-greatest-concert-venue-in-paris\/\"><span class=\"s2\">music hall<\/span><\/a> is within perfect walking proximity to the Canal St-Martin.
