You\u2019d like to take a nice stroll in Âé¶¹APP, have lunch, read a newspaper or maybe just do some general sightseeing. But which to choose? Luxembourg or Tuileries?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Your garden of choice will depend on what you\u2019d like to get out of your visit. Here\u2019s a breakdown of what both have to offer.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Luxembourg vs. Tuileries : Round 1<\/h4>\n<h4>Garden Layout<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Tuileries\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The huge garden, measuring more than 22 hectares, is a masterpiece in the garden \u201c\u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise\u201d style. Famed gardener Andr\u00e9 Le N\u00f4tre, who once served King Louis XIV, re-landscaped the gardens in 1664 to give it its current look.<\/p>\n<p>The iconic <i>grand all\u00e9e of Tuileries is<\/i> flanked by boxwood hedges and chestnut trees, giving the whole area a type of calm, quiet elegance. That, and the meticulous floral arrangements are beautiful. However Luxembourg is split into Ensligh and French garden styles. If you like the hybrid mix of English\/French style, or if you\u2019re a big fan of Italy\u2019s Boboli Gardens, check out Luxembourg.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Luxembourg vs. Tuileries : Round 2<\/h4>\n<h4>Neighborhood vibe<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Luxembourg\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s ideally situated between two vibrant neighbourhoods with a rich history: Saint-Germain-des-Pr\u00e9s and the Latin Quarter. The gardens aside, the area is a great place in general. For one, you\u2019re right by Saint-German Sulpice, a Catholic church that dates back to the 12th century.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s main claim to fame: That church is where the 2003 Tom Hanks hit \u201cDa Vinci Code\u201d was filmed. A few decades later, in 1818, it became the first contemporary art museum, designated a \u201cmuseum for living artists.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Once at the gardens, you\u2019re just a 10-minute walk from the Historic cafe Les Deux Magots, the caf\u00e9 that calls itself \u201csynonymous with literary and artistic life.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>From Hemingway and Picasso to Sartre and Beauvoir, some of the world\u2019s most noted literary and art figures frequented the caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays, it\u2019s more touristy \u2014 sleek waiters in black and white serve crowds who flock to sit on the terrace under green umbrellas. They\u2019ve named pricey breakfast options after their famous regulars. It was another artistic hub and dates back to the 1880. The caf\u00e9 was also a haunt of Picasso, Sartre, Beauvoir and other literary and artistic features like Boris Vian.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>But it even attracted cinema greats like Jane Fonda and Roman Polanksi, too. In short, Flore is for the famous. You\u2019re a stone\u2019s throw away from the Louvre, the iconic pyramid housing the country\u2019s most famous museum. Everything from the Mona Lisa to Venus de Milo is on display, but there\u2019s always something perhaps less known but just as impressive to discover.<\/p>\n<p>Right now there\u2019a a pretty fascinating Egyptian exhibit with a stunning collection of sarcophagi. Unfortunately, Delacroix\u2019s famous Liberty Leading the People is off display until next year. And you can always catch site of the Palais Royal, the stunning architecture an artwork in it\u2019s own right. The palace dates back to the 18th century, but it\u2019s appeal has endured throughout the centuries.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is all right by the famous La Com\u00e9die Fran\u00e7aise theatre, too. Founded in 1680 by King Louis XIV, the theatre still lives up to its legacy today offering all the best work of Moli\u00e8re, the great playwright who\u2019s as important to French theatre as Shakespeare is to English.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a fan of Impressionism you\u2019re in luck, as the L\u2019Orangerie Museum is in the southwest section of the Tuileries gardens. After a trip to the gardens you can stop by Place de la Concorde \u2014 the largest square in Âé¶¹APP which is, of course, the famed site of Louis XVI\u2019s demise during the French Revolution,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Which garden to choose?<\/h4>\n<p>Luxembourg gardens are in a vibrant neighbourhood, so if you\u2019re a fan of all the 6th Arrondissement has to offer, you may prefer it. Tuileries is right at the center of Âé¶¹APP, and if you\u2019re a museum buff you have easy access to some of the world\u2019s finest ones just steps away.<\/p>\n<h4>Luxembourg vs. Tuileries : Round 3<\/h4>\n<h4>What I love<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Well, to cut to the chase, I prefer Tuileries. I realised the certain<em> je ne sais quoi<\/em> that attracted me to Tuileries is its orderly design and arrangement. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">What impressed me most about Luxembourg were the rose garden and its nice arrangement of statues. If you&#8217;re a fan of Luxembourg, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/tour\/paris-walking-tours\/left-bank\/\">check out one of our walking tours for an up close look<\/a> at the Latin Quarter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But, like I said, I have a soft spot for the Tuileries gardens. Something about it just looks nice. It draws you in. It\u2019s the type of peaceful scene that\u2019s the perfect backdrop to any lunch break. Back in September, when the weather was still nice, I stopped by just to sit back with a beer in one hand and a hot dog in the other, content to look at the flowers underneath the shade of a large tree.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Just this past weekend, I was back at Tuileries, this time admiring the Christmas markets.
