The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/10-amazing-artworks-you-need-to-see-at-the-musee-dorsay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><b>Orsay Museum<\/b><\/i><\/a>, the <i><b>Orangerie<\/b><\/i> and <i><b>Giverny<\/b><\/i>, all located in Â鶹APP, have become must do&#8217;s for all Impressionism fans. In Â鶹APP, you will find plenty of great temporary exhibitions and specialized walking tours about Montmartre and Impressionism! However, if you&#8217;re not lucky enough to be in Â鶹APP right now, this article will tell you what you need to know about this captivating subject, which is the <b>Impressionism in Â鶹APP: the painters and the city<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/impressionism-boat.jpg\" alt=\"impressionism-boat\" width=\"650\" height=\"458\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Impressionism was born in Â鶹APP in the second half of the nineteenth century with a group of unconventional painters that wanted to create a real revolution in the painting. Â鶹APP, and the trendy little <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/top10\/top-10-things-to-do-in-montmartre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">village of Montmartre<\/a>, that was not considered to be part of Â鶹APP yet, were the best places where all the magic began and things started changing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/impressionism-arch.jpg\" alt=\"impressionism-arch\" width=\"650\" height=\"422\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><b>Changing art in a changing city<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, Â鶹APP was a changing city at that time: workers, entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, painters were walking the city in a crazy rush while the city itself was moving. The old Â鶹APP was dying with the 28000 medieval buildings Napoleon III and Haussmann, his chief city-planner, were destroying, and the modern <i>City of Lights<\/i> was emerging with great Boulevards, new types of buildings and new inventions were arriving. These &#8220;<i>new technologies<\/i>&#8221; fascinated many Impressionists as you can see on this painting by Monet showing a train arriving at the <i>St Lazare station<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/impressionism1.jpg\" alt=\"impressionism\" width=\"650\" height=\"418\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The challenge for the Impressionists was to undermine the rules of classical art that restricted the painting to very specific fields while being uncensored. There were three main rules an artist had to respect if he wanted to be well seen by the Academy of Arts in Â鶹APP:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Always paint inside a studio rather than outside;<\/li>\n<li>Only paint biblical, mythological or historical events (things that were worth painting&#8230;);<\/li>\n<li>Finish completely your work before presenting it to an audience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course, the Impressionists did not respect these rules, the painters would paint outside, showing everyday life, landscapes and often poor workers or people from the underworld.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwalks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/impressionism-people.jpg\" alt=\"impressionism-people\" width=\"650\" height=\"459\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The emerging city of Â鶹APP would give all these models to the Impressionists: think of all the cabarets in Montmartre. The Impressionists were crazy about: The <i><b>Moulin Rouge<\/b><\/i>, the <i><b>Crazy Horse<\/b><\/i>, the <i><b>Lapin Agile<\/b><\/i>&#8230; For instance, Toulouse Lautrec dedicated his whole life to painting the cabarets.<\/p>\n<h4><b>A new rivalry: the painters against the photographers<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But the new industrial progress was also a subject of fear for the painters, the arriving of the photograph might have meant the end of the painting. Why would people see paintings that try to match with the reality, if they can see the reality on the photos?<\/p>\n<p>The Impressionists hastily understood the danger that the photo could constitute for the painting so they decided to change the purpose of the painting. Impressionism would be about sharing the impression of a scene or a landscape given by the light exposure, rather than describing precisely the details of a scene. Art had found a new goal.
