As one of Prague&#8217;s most beloved monuments, it will get some new breath of life.<\/p>\n<h3>&nbsp;A Much-Needed Makeover<\/h3>\n<p>The Powder Gate&#8217;s current state has been described as &#8220;disastrous&#8221; by city officials.&nbsp;Years of weather damage and long overdue repairs from the 1960s and 70s have taken their toll on the historic structure.&nbsp;The black coating, added half a century ago to hide mismatched stonework, will be removed to reveal the tower&#8217;s original brown color from its 1880s Neo-Gothic renovation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We must care for Prague&#8217;s historical monuments,&#8221; says Jiri Pospisil, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Tourism.&nbsp;&#8220;They are symbols of our city and a legacy from our predecessors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lyte-wrapper fourthree\" style=\"width:480px;max-width:100%;margin:5px;\"><div class=\"lyMe\" id=\"WYL_6Phcj-FE6Hs\"><div id=\"lyte_6Phcj-FE6Hs\" data-src=\"\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/6Phcj-FE6Hs\/hqdefault.jpg\" class=\"pL\"><div class=\"tC\"><div class=\"tT\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"play\"><\/div><div class=\"ctrl\"><div class=\"Lctrl\"><\/div><div class=\"Rctrl\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><noscript><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/6Phcj-FE6Hs\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/6Phcj-FE6Hs\/0.jpg\" alt=\"YouTube video thumbnail\" width=\"480\" height=\"340\" \/><\/a><\/noscript><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:480px;margin:5px;\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/6Phcj-FE6Hs\" target=\"_blank\">Watch this video on YouTube<\/a>.<\/div><\/p>\n<h3>What Visitors Can Expect<\/h3>\n<p>While the scaffolding may disappoint some tourists hoping for the perfect photo, the renovation offers a unique opportunity to witness history in the making.<\/p>\n<p>Frantisek Cipro, Chairman of Prague City Tourism, reassures visitors:&nbsp;&#8220;The repairs will not significantly restrict visitor traffic.&nbsp;Our goal is to have the work finished by the end of October.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>A Glimpse into Prague&#8217;s Past and Future<\/h3>\n<p>The Powder Gate&#8217;s renovation is more than just a cosmetic update.&nbsp;Experts will study the building&#8217;s history up close using laser scanning. &nbsp;Original Gothic stones from later additions, providing valuable insights for future preservation efforts.<\/p>\n<p>As the scaffolding goes up and work begins, both locals and tourists are encouraged to embrace this unique moment in the Powder Gate&#8217;s long history.&nbsp;While it may not be picture-perfect this summer, the promise of a beautifully restored landmark on the horizon gives everyone something to look forward to.<\/p>\n<div id=\"disco-3174505787\" class=\"disco-amazon-box-2024 disco-entity-placement\"><div style=\"width: 100%; border: 2px solid lightgray; padding: 3% 6% 3% 3%; border-radius: 5px;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Planning a trip to Â鶹APP ?
