This closure is part of a series of weekend closures that are necessary to allow for essential maintenance and upgrade work in preparation for the opening of the new Silvertown Tunnel, which is expected to alleviate congestion in the area.<\/p>\n<p>During the closure, traffic will be diverted via the Rotherhithe Tunnel and other alternative routes. However, motorists can expect significant delays and congestion, especially during peak travel times.
