As summer travel season kicks into high gear, the Czech Ministry of Trade and Industry has released new guidance on how air passengers can claim compensation for flight delays and cancellations. With increasing reports of disruptions at Prague’s Vaclav Havel Airport, this timely information aims to empower travelers with knowledge of their rights.<\/p>\n

Know Your Rights: When Can You Claim?<\/h3>\n

Under EU regulation, passengers are entitled to compensation if their flight is delayed by three hours or more. This applies to all flights departing from an EU airport, as well as flights arriving at an EU airport on an EU-licensed carrier.<\/p>\n

The compensation amounts vary based on flight distance:<\/p>\n

– Up to 1,500 km: \u20ac250 (approximately 6,000 CZK)<\/p>\n

– 1,500-3,500 km: \u20ac400 (approximately 9,600 CZK)<\/p>\n

– Over 3,500 km: \u20ac600 (approximately 14,400 CZK)<\/p>\n

Beyond Money: What Else Are You Entitled To?<\/h3>\n

The ministry reminds travelers that they’re also entitled to food and drink during extended delays:<\/p>\n

– Flights under 1,500 km: after two hours<\/p>\n

– Flights between 1,500-3,500 km: after three hours<\/p>\n

– Flights over 3,500 km: after four hours<\/p>\n

When is Compensation not Applied<\/h3>\n

It’s important to note that airlines are exempt from paying compensation in cases of “extraordinary circumstances.” These can include severe weather conditions, security risks, or air traffic control restrictions.<\/p>\n
