It is good news for everyone <\/span>who will be<\/span> using the Barcelona Airport, as they will take less than 4 minutes to go through the luggage check before they embark on their flight.<\/span><\/p>\n

In only three and a half minutes, each piece of baggage passes through the first level of the automated EDS control, from where it <\/span>is distributed<\/span> to the handling company, which delivers the baggage to the cargo holds of the aircraft.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new automatic baggage control system at Barcelona Airport’s Terminals 1 and 2 was installed<\/span> <\/span>more than<\/span> eight months ago. It has enabled 80% of the suitcases to pass through the new system without any problems, a significant improvement over the previous system, which had a success rate of only 50%.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sheila Mu\u00f1oz, head of the Special Installations Department at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport, told Catalan News that the new security system possesses a 99.9% reliability rate, making it virtually impossible for a passenger’s baggage to get lost.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the previous system, baggage handlers were stationed just behind the check-in counters and manually handled the passengers’ bags.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the moment<\/span>, the Automated Baggage Transport System (SATE) checks and distributes the baggage by itself after it passes through security.<\/span><\/p>\n

The SATE installation features <\/span>a total of<\/span> twelve screening machines that use the most advanced CT scanning system, similar to the one used in the medical field. <\/span><\/p>\n

This<\/span> is part of Aena’s 15-step action plan to modernize Terminal 2, an initiative launched in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new system meets the requirements of the new EU regulations for the Explosive Detection System (EDS), Standard 3, while <\/span>also<\/span> improving baggage screening and ensuring a more fluid baggage handling process, according to the Spanish airport management company, Aena.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the new system in place, promising efficiency and speed for passengers, the airport operations in Barcelona will be something most will marvel at. <\/span><\/p>\n

The long airport queues will remain a thing of the past with this new baggage solution.<\/span><\/p>\n
