According to the most recent analysis from WTTC and ForwardKeys, the leading travel data and analytics company, international arrivals in France for the first half of 2024 are 93% higher than the same period in 2019, cementing France’s position as the world’s most popular destination.<\/p>\n

International arrivals to France have increased significantly in the first half of this year, providing a welcome boost to the sector, which, at its peak, contributed \u20ac220 billion to the national economy, as well as Travel & Tourism businesses across the country, supporting 2.7 million jobs.<\/p>\n

Julia Simpson, President & CEO of WTTC, stated that  “France\u2019s commitment to Travel & Tourism is not just reflected in the impressive data but in the unwavering efforts of the government. <\/em>President Macron recognizes the real value Travel & Tourism brings to France in terms of the economy, jobs, and its standing on the world stage. His support has ensured France remains the world\u2019s most popular destination.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Research also shows that airlines are increasing their capacity to meet rising global demand, with the number of seats expected to exceed 2019 levels this year.<\/p>\n

Olivier Ponti, Vice President of Insights at ForwardKeys, added: \u201cWith flight bookings on the rise and air carriers set to introduce a record number of seats, France enters 2024 in a strong position. <\/em>Capitalizing on the successful hosting of the Rugby World Cup 2023 and the growing exposure provided by the upcoming Olympic Games, the country is set to be one of most thought-after destinations this year for both regional and long-haul markets.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Orly Airport leads the way in terms of passenger capacity growth, with a 28% increase to nearly eight million. Charles de Gaulle remains France’s busiest airport, with 18.5 million passengers expected in the first six months of 2024, only 3% lower than in 2019.<\/p>\n

In 2024, other French cities will be popular tourist destinations. Nice is one of the best-performing European cities, with international arrivals expected to be 94% of pre-pandemic levels.<\/p>\n

France is becoming a popular destination for Spanish and Canadian travelers, with international arrivals exceeding 2019 levels by more than 64% and 54%, respectively.<\/p>\n

Irish and South Korean visitors are returning in droves to France, with numbers up 19% and 16% from 2019 levels, respectively.<\/p>\n

Travelers to France are also spending more money, with bookings for premium cabins up 21% from pre-pandemic levels in the first half of the year.<\/p>\n

Last year, WTTC’s Economic Impact Research (EIR) revealed that the French Travel & Tourism sector is expected to grow at an average of 3% per year over the next decade, more than doubling the country’s overall annual growth rate of 1.5%, reaching more than \u20ac297 billion (9.7% of the total economy).<\/p>\n

The forecast also revealed that the Travel & Tourism sector in France is expected to create more than 555,000 jobs over the next ten years, with an average of nearly 56,000 new jobs added each year, reaching nearly 3.3 million employees in 2033.<\/p>\n
