The Czech Republic prides itself in the charm of Prague yet there are more fascinating gems outside the city center. The town of \u017datec in the Czech region of \u00dast\u00ed nad Labem received the \u201cHistorical Town of the Year\u201d title for 2024.<\/p>\n

Moreover, with the award came a one-million-crown cheque. The annual competition is organized by the Association of Historic Settlements in Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia in collaboration with the Czech Ministry of Regional Development. This award honors towns and cities that have preserved and continually renewed their cultural and architectural heritage.<\/p>\n

In November 2023, \u017datec and the surrounding hop-growing landscape received the certificate of inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, after 15 years of waiting. The Historical Town of the Year award adds to \u017datec\u2019s reputation as a top tourist destination.<\/p>\n

What is the draw for \u017datec?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u017datec boasts a hop-growing legacy that is nowhere else in the world. The over-700-year-long tradition of growing Saaz noble hops used by several breweries is a key source of pride for this region. Visitors flock to the town’s information center and the nearby Stekn\u00edk Castle within the hop fields to learn about this heritage. Also, the vast hop-growing landscape is full of hop farms that tourists marvel at when they visit the region.<\/p>\n

Additionally, in \u017datec\u2019s historical center, visitors encounter its 19th-century industrial quarter with hop stores, and old drying and packing plants. The villages of Trnovany and Stekn\u00edk are more gems for tourists to uncover.
