Lovers of literature and baroque architecture can celebrate news of the virtual access of the National Library in Prague, launched in mid-April, 2024. Users will enjoy exceptional historical documents, digital stories, online exhibitions, and a fun puzzle party zone. This follows the library\u2019s partnership with Google Arts & Culture.<\/p>\n

This Baroque library in the historical Clementinum building will present its magic to users via Google\u2019s Street View. The move came in honor of the 100th-anniversary celebration of one of the institution\u2019s branches, Slavonic Library. The aim is to push Czech and English content to a wider audience.<\/p>\n

Tom\u00e1\u0161 Folt\u00fdn, director of the Czech Republic National Library wrote on Google Arts & Culture page, \u201cThanks to modern imaging methods and virtual tours in Street View, everyone can visit the unique Baroque spaces of one of the most beautiful libraries in the world at any time, no matter where they are\u201d.<\/p>\n

The highlights in the virtual collection include at least 200 historical documents, four digital stories, and a puzzle party. Users can explore rare historical manuscripts inaccessible to the public in the physical facility. Such as the Vy\u0161ehrad Codex, one of the Czech Republic\u2019s crucial manuscripts. Other masterpieces are the Star Globe by Caspar Pflieger and the Map of the New World by Sebastian M\u00fcnster.<\/p>\n

This collaboration between the library and Google is an ongoing process. Earlier, thousands of old prints were digitized and made accessible to the public through Google Books.<\/p>\n

Folt\u00fdn explained, \u201cYet again, modern imaging methods and virtual tours brilliantly showcase the living legacy of the National Library\u2019s rich and memorable collections. This new partnership not only gives people a chance to discover engaging stories and exhibits, but it hopefully inspires them to further explore the secrets and stories that Clementinum keeps in its historical books\u201d.<\/p>\n

Interested users can explore the National Library\u2019s resources on Google Arts & Culture on the web or iOS\/Android app in both Czech and English languages.<\/p>\n
