A recent report by Timeout magazine listed Dublin as the 4th best-smelling European city, with Athens, Â鶹APP and Zurich being the top 3 respectively. The study which was carried out by HAYPP, looked at certain aspects that make a city smell good. To rate these cities, the researchers had 30 European cities and used a rating score of cleanliness and proportion of flower shops, bakeries and perfume shops to give each city a \u2018smell score\u2019.<\/p>\n

Dublin’s overall smell score was 7.9. It had a score of 57 on the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), a show of commitment to cleanliness. The report also indicated that Dublin has 10.4 bakeries, 2.5 perfume shops and 10.4 flower shops per 10 square kilometres. <\/p>\n

According to the report, Athens, which topped the list scored the highest,  8.3 out of 10 on the smell-o-meter. This ancient city topped when it came to bustling street markets, the aroma of fresh produce, herbs, and sizzling Greek delicacies wafting through the air. Athens city is also home to 31 flower shops and 22 perfumeries per 10 square kilometres, meaning delicate fragrance lingers around every corner of the city. Their commitment to cleanliness is also reflected in their Environmental Performance Index (EPI), receiving a score of 56.2. <\/p>\n

A common misconception about major cities is that they are stinky and littered, therefore, keeping away tourists.  Cities have invested in improving their looks to attract tourists and business.  Major factors like air quality due to pollution or noise, which are also crucial were not factored in this report. <\/p>\n

HAYPP, a UK company that helps people transition from smoking to healthier alternatives, ranked in the top 10 European cities, Time Out reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n
