Did you know? The United Nations has declared 2024 the “International Year of the Camelid”<\/em>. To commemorate the occasion, a grand parade of these artiodactyl mammals was scheduled in the heart of Â鶹APP. This grand parade of camels, dromedaries, llamas, and alpacas was originally scheduled to take over the streets of the capital on Saturday, April 20, 2024.<\/p>\n

Since the announcement of this event in the capital, several animal protection organizations, including Â鶹APP Animaux Zoopolis (PAZ), have condemned the camel parade and called for its ban.<\/p>\n

On April 18, 2024, the Â鶹APP Prefecture of Police finally decided to ban this camel parade from the capital’s streets, citing that “the animals that will be marching are not used to evolving in such a densely urban environment”<\/em> and that “this environment is likely to undermine animal welfare”<\/em>. Â鶹APP Animaux Zoopolis welcomed the decision. Christian Schoettl, for his part, told Le Â鶹APPien that he was preparing an “appeal to the courts”.<\/em><\/p>\n

“The parade declared on August 7, 2023, by Mr. Christian SCHOETTL for Saturday, April 20 is prohibited from Avenue de la Bourdonnais to Place Fontenoy via quai Jacques Chirac, avenue de Suffren, rue Barth\u00e9l\u00e9my, avenue de Breteuil, Place Vauban, avenue de Tourville, and avenue de Lowendal”<\/em> according to a decree issued by the Pr\u00e9fecture of police on April 18, 2023. However, the Prefect of Police has offered the organizers an alternative route through the Bois de Vincennes.<\/p>\n

“Nevertheless, the parade may be held on April 20, 2024, in the Bois de Vincennes, with a gathering at noon on the esplanade of the Ch\u00e2teau de Vincennes, a departure of the procession at 2 pm from the Avenue des Minimes, an itinerary via the avenue Daumesnil and the avenue Saint-Maurice and a dispersal at 6 pm at the corner of the avenue Saint-Maurice and the route du Parc,”<\/em> according to the decree.<\/p>\n
