A new exhibition titled ‘Sacred Trust: Donations and their Legacy’ has opened at the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin. It will run from Wednesday 10th April to Sunday 4th August. According to the director of the gallery, Barbara Dawson, it is the museum’s role to ensure that these artworks are conserved and enjoyed for generations to come.<\/p>\n

It showcases a collection of art that has been donated to the museum, including some significant recent donations. The exhibition features works by renowned artists such as Courbet, Corot, Sean Scully, Harpignes, Irish 19th-century painter Charlotte Katherine McCausland, Mancini & Roderic O\u2019Conor, Manet, Monet, Degas and Vuillard.<\/p>\n

According to Dublin.ie,<\/a> one of the highlights of the exhibition is ‘Wall Landline Moor’ by Sean Scully, a stunning new painting that he recently donated to the gallery.<\/p>\n

The painting joins the impressive installation of ‘Untitled’ by Richard Gorman, a series of large works on handmade Koso Washi Japanese paper donated by Neil Jordan and Robert Maharry. Additionally, two previously unseen works on paper by Alexander Calder, ‘To Bambi’ and ‘Lo Oscuro Invade’, have been donated by Madeleine McGahern, while a monumental painting ‘Victory’ by Lawrence Carroll has been donated by Lucy Jones Carroll.<\/p>\n

The exhibition also includes a posthumous portrait of the first female Lord Mayor of Dublin, ‘Kathleen Clarke’, by Brian Maguire.<\/p>\n

These new works, alongside some significant donations from the museum’s founding collection, including Impressionist paintings, offer stimulating dialogues with their peers from an earlier age.<\/p>\n

All of the artworks will have a permanent home in the collection at the Hugh Lane Gallery. Visitors are welcome to drop in and view the exhibition for free, while all relevant information is available on the museum’s website.<\/p>\n

The Hugh Lane Gallery is an art museum operated by Dublin City Council and its wholly-owned company, the Hugh Lane Trust.<\/p>\n
