For many years, the samprietini or sanprietini have been Rome\u2019s iconic cobblestones that have been used to cover the pavements and pedestrian roads in the Eternal City.<\/p>\n

These tiny volcanic rock pyramids made from them have been part of the city for several years. History states that some of the first documented samprietini were used in the fifteenth century and have been used to date.<\/p>\n

On top of being easier to use in constructing paths, the sanprietini cobblestones are tourists\u2019 favorites for their historic charm. Once used to create a road, these cobblestones create tough terrain that is not suitable for cars. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why they have been less in recent years, as most places have adopted asphalt.<\/p>\n

However, the public works in Rome have launched a swap as the modern-day asphalt is being replaced by the traditional sanprietini cobblestones on the streets between Circus Maximus and the Aventine Hill.<\/p>\n

More than one hundred thousand sanprietini have been set aside to replace the asphalt in preparation for the Jubilee in 2025.<\/p>\n

For those who have an affinity for the sanprietini cobblestone, this is the time to enjoy your favorite rocks used to make pavements. Aventine Hill will soon be covered in traditional cobblestones.<\/p>\n
