The Lisbon Book Fair is back. Set to run from 29th May to 16th June 2024, this year’s edition will feature many new participants, and 10 more exhibitors than in previous years. Held since the 1930’s, the fair has grown into a popular cultural attraction for both locals and visitors.

The numerous stalls displaying books and magazines are a huge draw for book lovers. Although most books are in Portuguese, it is possible to find material in other languages. Besides books, visitors can also indulge in the exhibitions, lectures, presentations and interactions with writers and publishers. Designated areas for reading allow for relaxing time over a nice read.

With 139 participants, the fair will take place at the expansive Parque Eduardo VII. Although there have been requests for more pavilions, the fair will maintain the same 340 pavilions as it has before due to logistical constraints.

As stated by the president of the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers (APEL), Pedro Sobral, the immense success of the fair over the years has made it reach its physical growth limit. ‘’We decided at APEL that this park of 350 pavilions, which will end with 10 more, is sufficient. It is a very large financial burden and we do not want to leave a complicated burden to the next management and, in addition, the space is complex to manage”, Pedro explained.

The fair will also focus on accessibility, and several upgrades have been made to the pavilions to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility. According to Pedro Sobral, they received feedback from various associations which recommended improvements in accessibility for those with motor and visual disabilities. The fair will close at 10 pm on weekdays and 11 pm on weekends.

Planning a trip to Â鶹APP ?
