Given the recent passing of Akira Toriyama, the creator of the beloved Dragon Ball series, on March 1st, this iconic manga and anime will undoubtedly be among the most popular themes adorning the ‘Mones de Pasqua’ in 2024.<\/p>\n

As reported by the Catalan News, Miquel Zaguirre, the vice president of the Barcelona Pastry Guild, stated that the character ‘Goku’ is making a resounding comeback due to the profound nostalgia felt by fans after hearing the news of the manga great’s passing.<\/p>\n

This year’s celebrations will pay homage to Toriyama’s legacy through these delightful creations.<\/p>\n

2024 will also see numerous female characters taking centre stage on the cakes, with notable appearances by Barbie, capitalizing on the success of the recent movie.<\/p>\n

As Miquel from the Bakers’ Guild explains, this endeavour is a collaborative effort between the Guild and the University of Barcelona, aimed at promoting science through these enchanting confections.<\/p>\n

Despite the significant increase in the prices of ingredients \u2013 with chocolate prices skyrocketing by 55% due to the global surge in cocoa costs, eggs rising by 30%, sugar by 16%, and butter by 10.3% \u2013 the ‘Mones’ will not see a price hike this year, as reported by the Catalan News.<\/p>\n

However, Miquel does not rule out a potential increase in 2025.<\/p>\n

While many bakeries strive to captivate customers with their magical chocolate figurines, the best-sellers remain the traditional ‘Mones de Pasqua’ \u2013 sponge cakes topped with chocolate eggs, retaining their dominance as the quintessential Easter treat.<\/p>\n
