The Budapest International Book Festival (Budapesti Nemzetk\u00f6zi K\u00f6nyvfesztiv\u00e1l) is a cornerstone event in Hungary’s cultural calendar that dates back to the 1990\u2019s. As the name suggests, the event calls in book lovers, authors, and publishers from around the globe to celebrate authors.<\/p>\n

The festival\u2019s origins trace back to the Budapest Congress Centre but has since then expanded and relocated to various venues all around Budapest. The event typically runs for at least two weeks and this year it is set to run from the 25th<\/sup> to the 28th<\/sup> of April. The Hungarian Central Building Market which serves as the festival’s central hub, hosts over 200 literature exhibitors from all over the world. The exhibitions feature literature Visitors across various genres, including fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, and academic works.<\/p>\n

The festival invites renowned authors from various countries, offering attendees the chance to engage with their favorite writers and even get their books signed. One of the festival\u2019s highlights is the Budapest Grand Prize, awarded to outstanding contemporary writers.<\/p>\n

Over the years the awards have been bestowed upon literary giants such as Salman Rushdie, Imre Kert\u00e9sz, Robert Merle, Paulo Coelho, Per Olov Enquist, and Lawrence Norfolk, among others. The whole essence of the awards is to recognize and celebrating literary excellence. Essentially the festival invites renowned authors from various countries, offering attendees the chance to engage with their favorite writers and even get their books signed.<\/p>\n

Every year, the festival pays tribute to a specific country, and this tradition has allowed the people have a deeper understanding of literature and culture of that specific nation. The 2024 edition of the festival will feature France as the country of honor, highlighting the rich literary tradition and contemporary works of French authors.<\/p>\n
