Hack Group Clop Gives Stern Ultimatum To Their Victims<\/h2>\n

Infamous hack group, Clop, has posted a stern warning on their website, warning victims of their MOVEit hack that stolen personal data will be published if they do not contact them.<\/p>\n

The warning was posted on the group\u2019s website in the dark web, claiming that said victims had until June 14th to contact the hackers via their email.<\/p>\n

The hack by Clop was first reported last week. They exploited MOVEit software which is used by hundreds of companies to securely transfer files around internal networks.<\/p>\n

Using the vulnerability in MOVEit\u2019s system, the cybercrime gang found an entry point into the systems of several companies and originations in a single mass hack.<\/p>\n

Progress Software provides MOVEit in the US for numerous enterprises to safely move files between corporate systems. One of its consumers was the UK-based provider of payroll services Zellis.<\/p>\n

According to Zellis, Eight UK organizations have reported having their personal information taken as a result. The stolen information includes home addresses, social security numbers, and, in certain circumstances, bank information.<\/p>\n

These organizations include the BBC, British Airways (BA), Aer Lingus, Boots, the Nova Scotia Government, and the University of Rochester.<\/p>\n

After the announcement of the hack, there was doubt about who was responsible. However, on Monday Microsoft analysts suggested Clop for the crime. This was based on the techniques used in the hack.<\/p>\n

However, via the announcement from Clop, any doubt on the matter has so far been cleared.<\/p>\n

The statement reads, \u201cThis is announcement to educate companies who use Progress MOVEit product that chance is that we download a lot of your data as part of exceptional exploit. We are the only one who perform such attack and relax because your data is safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The cybercrime gang does not provide an explicit sum for their ransom demand but instead demands that the \u201cvictims\u201d enter into negotiations with them. This is an unusual technique since hackers typically email ransom demands to victim organizations.<\/p>\n

As the BBC suggests, this could be because Clop is unable to keep up with the scale of the massive hack. Amir Had\u017eipasi\u0107, the CEO of SOS Intelligence also weighed in saying, “My take is that they just have so much data that it is difficult for them to get on top of it all. They’re betting that if you know then you will contact them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The group also claims that they have deleted any data from government, city, or police services. “Do not worry, we erased your data you do not need to contact us. We have no interest to expose such information,” the notice reads.<\/p>\n

Who Are Clop?<\/h3>\n

Clop is a prolific cybercrime gang that as per multiple sources is believed to be based in Russia. According to the Standard, they have been active since February 2019.<\/p>\n

So far, Clop has successfully attacked over 230 firms and companies. However, it hasn\u2019t been all success for the group.<\/p>\n

In June 2021, they faced several raids by the Ukrainian police. Several members of the group from Ukraine were arrested in the raids.<\/p>\n
