Victor Trained Via Zoom During The COVID-19 Pandemic<\/h2>\n

To reach the top, you have to start from the bottom and so much unseen hard work involved in getting at the pinnacle shapes an athlete to be the best.<\/p>\n

This is the story of Victor Wembanyama who is the 19-year-old French sensation who is set to join the NBA come June 22, 2023, when the draft lottery happens.<\/p>\n

The hype surrounding Wembanyama is hard to miss as he is the hottest topic right now especially now that the draft is just a few days to come.<\/p>\n

All we can see is finished work, like art which is complete with us forgetting all the effort the artist has put in to end up with a finished masterpiece.<\/p>\n

For Wembanyama, all this hype is just a result of the hard work he has been putting in all his life.<\/p>\n

For all the sleepless nights he had, the sore feet he got and the sweat he shed it\u2019s all paying up now.<\/p>\n

Victor\u2019s glory is crazy and now that he is set to be the first overall pick in the NBA, would you believe it if I told you that Victor trained via Zoom when the Covid-19 had struck and forced everyone into hibernation?<\/p>\n

You got it right, when we rested the lad was putting in the effort to realize the limelight he is getting right now it\u2019s good that things work out.<\/p>\n

In a recent piece done on The Dallas Morning News, Wembanyama is said to have gotten training online.<\/p>\n

During the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak, Victor Wembanyama spent time on his laptop interacting with Tim Martin, his Dallas-based trainer whom he had never met in person.<\/p>\n

At the time, Wembanyama was not the undisputed number one pick that he is today but a mere gifted French kid.<\/p>\n

His future to being the star he is today and what he will be in the future couldn\u2019t be clearer when he began training with Dallas-based trainer Tim Martin who has a resume of being one of the best trainers of NBA players.<\/p>\n

Before all that Martin only had a few conversations with Wemby after having a mutual connection with Dallas-based NBA agent Bouna Ndiaye who acquainted these two.<\/p>\n

They only got a chance to link up in 2021 but they had already trained virtually in hour-long sessions.<\/p>\n

With most indoor facilities closed in 2020, their virtual lessons saw Martin hold lessons from a local tennis court and Wembanyama logged in from his home.<\/p>\n

Martin positioned a chair that could be folded beneath an umbrella at all times. Before showing Wembanyama his footwork, defensive principles, and other manoeuvres on camera, he would first prop the laptop up on the chair in the shade to prevent it from overheating.<\/p>\n

After that, he would sit down and watch Victor replicate everything.
\nHowever, their exchange didn\u2019t end in the court as Martin had a lot to learn from Wembanyama too and as things panned out.<\/p>\n

When Martin first travelled to Lyon, France, in early 2021, he taught him about the French Revolution.<\/p>\n

On Martin’s previous visit in February, Wembanyama also gave recommendations for art galleries and displays, including those featuring the Mona Lisa, and the two of them went to an opera. Their exchange was deemed fruitful and it has led to what Wembanyama is today.<\/p>\n

Now set to join the NBA, we can see why Victor is projected to be the first overall pick.<\/p>\n

Putting in the work when everybody else is not and the odds against him just shows how resilient he is and now when all the lights are shining bright and the stakes are high, he\u2019s ready to take the mantle by storm.<\/p>\n

June 22, 2023, will see Wembanyama possibly land in San Antonio and although the Spurs might not be in Dallas, at least they are in the same state of Texas and perhaps Martin will be able to watch Wemby play at the AT&T Center.<\/p>\n

Tim Martin will be so proud of what Victor has become.<\/p>\n
