The Met Office via their official Twitter page issued a yellow warning covering southern England, East Anglia and parts of the Midlands with a radar image showing a band of intense rain stretching across the country on Tuesday evening.  Heavy rain and thunderstorms are continuing to move eastwards across parts of England, giving some poor travelling conditions<\/span><\/p>\n

The Tweet read, A yellow warning is in force until 10 pm this evening across southern and eastern England so please take extra care. Overnight rain cleared to leave a day of sunshine and heavy thundery showers on Tuesday. <\/span><\/p>\n

Basingstoke was hit by an onslaught of hail as residents expressed their shock at the extreme weather conditions which they have not experienced in a long time. Some were even worried that the hail would cause damage to their property which includes cars that are packed outside and their gardens. <\/span><\/p>\n

The heavy rain also brought flooding to some areas, with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service tweeting that they had received calls from people stuck in flood water. They issued warnings to the general population to avoid driving through flood water, Not to make unnecessary trips since vehicles could become stuck and even swept away in just 30cm of flowing water.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Sky News, Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir said they were some lively conditions across the south as well as the east and that a risk of rain and hail would persist on Wednesday and Thursday. She added that on Friday there could be some heavy showers in the South, but elsewhere it will be mostly dry. The thunderstorm warning covering southern England, East Anglia, and parts of the Midlands is in force alongside a flood warning for England.<\/span><\/p>\n

The rains also affected trains between Basingstoke and Exeter which were disrupted due to flooding. Late on Tuesday night, Network Rail Wessex said that lines remain blocked although the flooding was starting to recede.<\/span><\/p>\n

Met Office on Wednesday morning tweeted,  A dry start to Wednesday for many of us  though showery in the west with further showers bubbling up through the morning elsewhere. <\/span><\/p>\n

Another Met Office spokesperson Stephen Dixon said some parts of the yellow warning area could see more than 40 millimeters of rain during a three-hour period. He said: “On Wednesday, we’ve got low pressure approaching the northwest of Scotland, which is going to introduce some more wet weather, particularly in the west of Scotland and Northern Ireland for a time. <\/span>“Widespread showers are possible on Thursday and some of the showers again could be quite heavy in nature for a time.<\/span><\/p>\n
