Smith thinks the French phenom is a poor man\u2019s taller version of Kevin Durant<\/h2>\n

Everything Victor does now seems like a bonus because his impression has already piqued interest around the world. Wembanyama, who stands 7’4″ and has a wingspan of nearly 8 feet, is physically equipped to rule on both ends of the court. But what has distinguished him is his skill and overall style of play.<\/p>\n

Despite his height, he has a quick first step and excellent ball-handling skills that enable him to easily get through the defence and make his shot. His shooting range reaches past the three-point line and is effortless and fluid.<\/p>\n

Additionally, his length and athleticism make him a formidable rim protector and a disruptive force in passing lanes on defence.<\/p>\n

With all these qualities, the average person would be impressed but the case is quite different for Stephen A. Smith. The American sports television personality did not mince his words during a show on NBA Countdown.<\/p>\n

He said, “When I think about this kid right here, he seems to me to be a poor man\u2019s taller version of the great Kevin Durant. He\u2019s got ball-handling skills. He\u2019s got a J. He\u2019s got a perimeter game. He can get to the hole. He has those skills. But he\u2019s rail thin.<\/p>\n

And then that makes me think of Greg Oden. It makes me think of Sam Bowie. It makes me think of Chet Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in this past June\u2019s draft that ain\u2019t even playing this year because he\u2019s out injured. We\u2019ve seen big dudes who were relatively skinny.<\/p>\n

There is some trepidation. Of course, you gotta take this dude No. 1 at 7-foot-4 with those skills. But it worries me.”<\/p>\n

This comes as no surprise because a lot of pundits have been sceptical about Wemby\u2019s build and physique and their first thought is if Victor will be able to survive the intensity in the NBA.<\/p>\n

A major concern to many is that tall players are prone to injuries and the thought of Victor being tall is a major worrying factor. We have seen it with Yao Ming and Manute Bol whose careers got cut short because of numerous injuries and Wemby standing close to them does not make him an exception.<\/p>\n

The fact that Victor is classified as having a thin build and weighing 230 pounds gives scouts who are compulsively following the French prodigy too many questions and talking points. Some people believe that after Victor is chosen in the June draft, it will be easy to tell him that he has to gain muscle and weight.<\/p>\n

Victor’s team, however, insists that’s not their primary concern at the moment and that they are instead concentrating on other matters.<\/p>\n

The focus on Victor gaining weight, on the other hand, has been referred to as a “mistake” by Victor’s agent who said; \u201cThe weight will come over time, you know, but the focus on weight is a mistake, I\u2019m 100 per cent sure on that. If you put too much weight too quickly on Victor\u2019s body, it\u2019s not going to last. For sure, he will be injury-prone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looks like Wembanayama\u2019s camp is not worried about a thing as Victor is set to join the NBA and perhaps everybody else should stop worrying.<\/p>\n

This confidence proves that everything else is in perfect play and it’s just a matter of time before Victor takes charge, after all, Victor has been dubbed an alien by LeBron James and this just shows how different the French phenom is.<\/p>\n
