Did you know you could drive past a Zebra casually grazing by the side of the road in Kajiado county? Or better still a herd of cows cohabiting with another pack of antelopes all looking for an afternoon feed? Need I mention how you should look out for the baboons who are always eager to share your meal your opinion notwithstanding? Well, this is the welcome you receive when you step into Kajiado county.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kajiado county is the bedrock of most of the Kenyan wildlife and as a lover of all things nature, we decided to camp there for a few hours and explore all that the county has to offer and generally take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city life. <\/span><\/p>\n

We left Nairobi at 10 am and the drive to Kajiado was about two and a half hours which was considerably short and not fatiguing as you would expect from a road trip. The journey there was also riddled with jaw-dropping events and numerous stopovers. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our first stopover was in the town of Ongata Rongai at 12 noon, we didn\u2019t know it then but this was the last ounce of civilization we would see for a long time. We stocked up on utilities, food and lots of water for the trip ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n

We got back on the Nairobi – Mombasa road to make our way to the next stop which was Loitokitok and we got there at 2 pm. This was the hallmark of our adventure, we stopped at a local joint for lunch and given we were in Masai land among an abundance of livestock, we were taken to identify which goat we wanted which is another perk of visiting Kajiado county, the food is literally farm to table.<\/span><\/p>\n

A few minutes later we were greeted with the sizzling of freshly roasted meat referred to as Nyama Choma and Ugali which is an unmatched duo delicacy in Kajiado, Kenya.<\/p>\n

We left to do our last activity of the day which was our game drive at 4 pm and now delved into the interiors of Kajiado county we were met with a host of wildlife. I would recommend that you start this game drive quite earlier than we did, as we missed most wildlife who had gone down for a nap.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, no one warned us about the scorching sun,  <\/span>so make sure to carry caps to shield yourself from the sun and double up on that water stock.<\/p>\n

We camped for the next 4 hours in the conservancy and got to interact with most of the wildlife who came out in the evening strolls. The lionesses running after their playful cubs, the crocodiles sluggishly leaving their abode to catch the sunset and the giraffe reaching the highest trees to get their evening feed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The best part about all this was how we got to immortalize these moments by taking countless photos and video footage that we could rewatch long after we left Kajiado.<\/p>\n

As we wound up the trip and started heading back to the city of a thousand lights, I couldn\u2019t help but imagine the cosmopolitan that Kajiado had become, how the Masai community were peacefully co-habiting with the wild animals, my mind kept thinking if this is how Adam and the garden of Eden operated. The hospitality of the Masais was also very pleasant and heartwarming.<\/span><\/p>\n

We got back to Nairobi at 10 pm and all we could think about was planning another round trip to Kajiado. To my reader, this is your sign to plan that trip. Kajiado county is a must-visit destination if you\u2019re in Kenya and even if you\u2019re outside the country, the visit will give you a newly acquired taste for the love of nature and the wild.<\/span><\/p>\n
