First, let me say that this is an exaggeration. People change all the time. <\/span><\/p>\n

The problem is that very often they do not change the way you want them to.<\/span><\/p>\n

Missing this point can lead to spending time with, even marrying, the wrong people. If your boyfriend is rude and it bothers you a lot, don\u2019t assume that when you are together all the time you can get him to be more considerate. Decide now if this is a deal breaker. And if it is, \u2018move on\u2019. If it is not a deal breaker, then \u2018ok\u2019. You can bring it up, but don\u2019t make his changing a requirement of this relationship being one you want. If you do, it is likely to eventually lead to frustration and resentment, on both sides,<\/span><\/p>\n

AND\u2026. Try to avoid people who are trying to change you. You can feel this as they are often giving you \u2018gentle\u2019 hints on how you can be better at something. These people will end up as mentioned above, \u201cfrustrated and resentful\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n

The good news about not expecting people to change is that you become more selective on who you spend your time with. And at the same time, you become more tolerant of other people. When you realize someone is unlikely to change the way you want them to, you don\u2019t get as frustrated when they act in a way you wish they wouldn’t. You say to yourself, it is \u2018ok\u2019 as I have chosen this path and if they do not change, at least I have not expected them to.<\/span><\/p>\n
